Imagine being talented and beautiful and rich and famous and still the most noteworthy thing about you is how good a person you are.

Hands up if you just knew Polanksi was going to wade in on this one and stick up for the guy jailed for a prolonged campaign of antisemitic harassment against a Jewish MP

Not sure if this is one of my most rightwing or my most leftwing takes, but if you believe there is such a thing as “excessive profits” in a sector you really should just go ahead and insource the service you’re paying for:

This piece is billed as ‘father of girls thinks misogyny lessons are unnecessary’ but right at the end he actually asks the girls he is confidently speaking on behalf of and they…disagree. Amazing. www.thetimes.com/life-style/p...

This is why it is good that financial literacy is going to be taught in schools. On average, if you are 20, you should save in an index fund and not worry about it for decades, and he should know this!

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

Rachel Reeves: You know you’d be personally richer and the economy would be better and you wouldn’t have to fix strangers’ boilers if you just put any savings you have in a stock tracker rather than buy to lets. Everyone in the UK with any money: all my life I have dreamed of being a landlord.

See also, people who lament specialist shops closing down like Mothercare, but who would decide what they wanted in the shop then buy for a tenner cheaper online.

The problem is that doom can become self-fulfilling. Public perception about the country is increasingly disconnected from how they feel about their own lives. So I look at how government can boost confidence, while acknowledging the real challenges that exist.

Local school only offers it from 810 to 840, and has excluded reception children. Breakfast is toast or cereal. Parents who need it for work are still paying for the regular 730 club whilst the other parents have moved their school drop off time to half an hour earlier. Very few actually benefit.

We are once more again seeing the distortion created by who has access to media. Numerous columns from or about people earning "only" £150k on the horror of private school VAT but barely anything from the hundreds of thousands at risk from genuine deprivation via PIP changes.
