What fascinates me in this is the idea that the government could save billions by not making such large interest payments to commercial banks - and that that change has already been made elsewhere. I'd love to know from any economists whether this is actually true / viable / sensible.

Thanks to Kent looking likely to beat Gloucestershire today, it seems Lancashire will be spared finishing bottom of the County Championship for the first time in our history. But the team's been woeful, and it's simply not good enough to have to celebrate it being merely our equal-worst season ever.
