open source and open data as an ethos is largely anti capital and anti authority and is inherently political in ways we need more of

Strong agree which i think is part of why there’s a decent argument for banning AI for that group (or heavily modifying / guard railing it)

I think what those same people would do with a sharpie on printer paper would be vastly more pleasing and interesting though purely through the process of having to interact with the page (if we could get them to)

I absolutely agree, you said it better than i was thinking it, the barrier allows an opportunity for the development of taste because it demands/rewards if you pay attention and that is the foundation of taste development

yeah also it's right to prioritise understanding at least to some extent and it's terrifying that we don't know how eg general anaesthetic works

I read Rubio’s speech where he does a Prager U recap of Ancient Greek history, and the funniest part is where he praises Achilles for seeking glory in Troy even though it means his death. Yeah, Marco, the Iliad is great. What’s Achilles up to in the sequel?

Quick story. My op-ed on how corporations that kept their DEI programs performed just as well financially was accepted & factchecked at TIME Magazine. Just needed "pro forma review by the legal department." Suddenly the piece is spiked Why? Benioff owns TIME and wants to ingratiate himself to Trump

you are not going to exit an abusive system without understanding how it works to some extent (you do not need to understand "why" abuse happens though, in my experience), even if you leave it you'll be conditioned to recreate it or regard it as natural until you unpick it in your own mind

Rafe Meager (they/them) @economeager.bsky.social · 6h
i also think that noticing nuance is important in abusive systems because it helps you to understand them. of course it gets tiring dealing with morons who think the state was sincere in its posture that police brutality is an "accident", but it is also not accidental when the state's tactic changes

i like your attitude. i have a different one. i think that if someone is very evil, eg someone tries to kill you, it is natural and healthy not just to seek to defend yourself from them in some dutiful way but to actually want them to die instead. howevr, one has got to be REALLY careful with this.

i believe some people deserve death but i don;t think the state should have the power to deal it out (nor do i think they should be allowed to put people in extended solitary etc)

this is a sobering realisation, US voters now consider it acceptable for their children to watch the state execute people

yeah i did mean livestreamed specifically, and i do mean state execution specifically, obvious snuff films and livesteamed violence are common, as are public show trials. but i also think televised state execution has only happened a handful of times in world history, no?

Being trans is good. And taking actions is good. So you would think that having “trans actions” coming out of your bank account would also be good. BUT ☝️watch out.

This would be the first livestreaming of an execution by a state in history right? If so, incredible that the US beat the saudis and North Koreans to this
