I was thinking the same about Cathy and Dilbert, Rachel!

I only mentioned three. I'll add Baby Blues, which I'm fond of.

In November 1984, Bloom County had the line "If two million people do a foolish thing, it's still a foolish thing." I kept that one on my bulletin board for at least four years.

I still have that same Bloom County book! First it was Peanuts, for me. Used to read the Sunday funnies, then later the daily B&W set. Get Fuzzy was my '90s favorite. Bloom County started me on a lifelong penguin quest after I became "Opus" as a camp counselor!

I edit nonprofit health and equity organizations' reports. I compile material from multiple people to create a cohesive document and ensure messages don’t contradict each other. My background is in public health. I led a nonprofit association before becoming an editor. #AmEditing

Another special day happens on MLK Jr Day this year: Monday, January 20, is Penguin Awareness Day. 🐧🐧 Friends & I will be staying aware of #penguins all day long. Read about, stitch, draw, or needle-felt a #penguin. Take care of your heart. #AmEditing #FindJoy #NoDoomscrolling

Alt: Two baby emperor chick penguins stand next to each other in the snow. They twitch their heads and are clearly siblings.

@freshlookediting.ca Alicia, you've been so helpful about your end-of-year methods. I like hearing about them! Even if I only take the coloring (heh) idea to heart, I will probably percolate on some others. Thanks! And thanks to #ACESChat!

170

Should have said "FOR ME." I like how much we learn that what works for one person is different than what works for another! #ACESChat

Early January seems like a better idea than late December! #ACESChat

{Adds note to think about fun versus joy!} #ACESChat

Fair! I don't always read even the newsletters I purposely subscribed to. I also don't want to feel like a burden. #ACESChat

040

That sounds like a good end-of-year plan, Alicia. I often (not always) choose a word for the year. This month I settled on FUN. Learn more about fun, distinguish between fun and enjoyment, and have more fun. And I've already started :-) #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

That edit button would really help.

000

Where's the edit button in Bluesky?

I have a sub-question for 9: Do you send out greetings this time of year? #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

I have a friend that does a Finance Friday for her business. We often send each other our checklists. #ACESChat

270

Jamie, do you do anything unusual, or is it pretty much catching up on those basic $$ tasks? #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

140

Alicia has given me some ideas here on coloring and doodling my way into 2025! #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

150

Oooh, I do like a good mind map with color pens. Or a big place to mix words and doodles. This sounds like a fun way to prepare. #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

160

Great phrase "pessimistic income math"! #ACESChat

My own calendar mirrors yours. This year I'm still thinking about formalizing what I noted in September (5 yr mark) that I need to do more of, better, or differently. #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

170

Kath, I'm very interested in this. I have a video set aside on soc media tools. I know Hootsuite seems like too much for my personal use. Have you found any you like? #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

150

I'm debating whether I want to do a formal end-of-year report to myself this year. I think I'm reacting to so many wrap-ups being numbers driven, when what I really want to know is Did I help people? Did I have enjoy what I was doing? #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

Me, too, Jamie! It's my first #ACESChat on Bluesky. I'm a nonfiction editor based in Atlanta. I like working with academics, nonprofits, indie authors, and (dare I say it?) textbooks! And I adore Alicia! @freshlookediting.ca #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

Bad weather delayed the plane until midnight, so after we picked up my sister we opened gifts at 2 a.m.!

Pam Eidson @ebeforei.bsky.social · 22/11/2024

Happy launch day to @madeleinevasaly.com for The Proofreader's Guide to Comic Book Style! One thing I learned from Madeleine is that in comics sometimes the letter i has the crossbars of a serif font, and sometimes it doesn't! Get her book to learn why!

@ebrenner.bsky.social , CONGRATULATIONS on winning the Robinson Prize!!!!!!!

It's the *italicize* it part that so many writers are skimming over. The "The" popping up in the middle of a sentence all capitalized like that is jarring! #ACES2024

060

Or at least aims to! The changes in 2020 converged among the style guides at the same time (apart from APA, which already had Black capitalized). #ACES2024 #ThatWordChat

True. Also nonbreaking for three of the four spaces but not the fourth.

020

I mean, it's a fair point! En dashes are for editors. #ACES2024 #ThatWordChat

150

At least we get to complain about something new!

Saving copyeditors from spending all their time on hyphens. #ThatWordChat #ACES2024

Save people from unnecessary hyphens. 😂 #ACES2024 #ThatWordChat

He's missed part of the point of objecting to "he or she." Male dominance! Leaving out nonbinary people! But yes, somebody forgot their coat. #ACES2024 #singularThey #ThatWordChat

It was indeed! The Merriam-Webster listings were mentioned. And that CMOS doesn't want to insist on capitalizing it. #ACES2024 #ThatWordChat

I think he is saying it's not mandatory with "white." #ACES2024
