Excellent list of resources and call to action. After reading it I feel hopeful and more motivated.

I've been seeking joy as an antidote to all the chaos and turmoil. If you have any feeds on Bluesky that bring you unfettered joy, please reply! I can recommend the Birds! feed at bsky.app/profile/did:.... I don't post there, just view lovely photos of birds! #FindJoy

Another special day happens on MLK Jr Day this year: Monday, January 20, is Penguin Awareness Day. 🐧🐧 Friends & I will be staying aware of #penguins all day long. Read about, stitch, draw, or needle-felt a #penguin. Take care of your heart. #AmEditing #FindJoy #NoDoomscrolling

@freshlookediting.ca Alicia, you've been so helpful about your end-of-year methods. I like hearing about them! Even if I only take the coloring (heh) idea to heart, I will probably percolate on some others. Thanks! And thanks to #ACESChat!

I'm debating whether I want to do a formal end-of-year report to myself this year. I think I'm reacting to so many wrap-ups being numbers driven, when what I really want to know is Did I help people? Did I have enjoy what I was doing? #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

Me, too, Jamie! It's my first #ACESChat on Bluesky. I'm a nonfiction editor based in Atlanta. I like working with academics, nonprofits, indie authors, and (dare I say it?) textbooks! And I adore Alicia! @freshlookediting.ca #ACESChat #AmEditing #Editors #Freelancing

Happy launch day to @madeleinevasaly.com for The Proofreader's Guide to Comic Book Style! One thing I learned from Madeleine is that in comics sometimes the letter i has the crossbars of a serif font, and sometimes it doesn't! Get her book to learn why!

We're moving into spring! Time for renewal and wild temperature changes. I like seeing all the colors. What do you like about spring?

Emily Atkin (is she on Bluesky?) writes that we must spell out the major causes of the climate crisis: fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial agriculture. Implications for editors and freelance editors. #AmEditing This article is free to everyone. open.substack.com/pub/heated/p...

Calling this "climate change" is not enough

Journalists and meteorologists must go further, and call rapid hurricane intensification a symptom of fossil fuels.

This FB post from 2017 popped up. I didn't become a professional freelance editor until two years later. He's now in college. #AmEditing #OxfordComma

Facebook memory from Oct 23, 2017.

My son, aged 12, reading a quiz card at dinner tonight: "The words all run together because they left out the Oxford Comma!"
My work here is done.

One of the first things I did here at Bluesky was find the #birds. Search by #birds or by feather 🪶, and every single day you get to see pretty photos of birds! (Request if you want to post there, but it's free to spectate!) Bring beauty to your day. #AmEditing

Today at #ACESVCon23, I seem to be better at ignoring the chat so I can listen to what the presenter is saying. Or perhaps I was clinging to every word of Melanie Faizer's deep web search techniques!

I've read plenty of books in my life where I wondered how so many errors got through. Then I became an editor and saw how it happened. On a heavy copyedit, I might have multiple queries per paragraph ("Did you mean x or z when you said this?") Here's the math. #AmEditing

I remodeled my Word Ribbon, building a new Habitat tab to take the place of Home. The groups are named after penguin species. It's possible this makes me a little too happy. #AmEditing #freelance #editors

Snippet of MS Word's Ribbon, rearranged to suit an editor of words. Lots of symbols and command names, such as Font Color, Track Changes, View Macros, and many more. The main tab called Habitat is shown, with items arranged in groups called Galapagos, Emperor, Chinstrap, and Macaroni. This naming convention is merely for fun. No penguins were harmed in the making of this Ribbon.

This idea is new to me (which I'm sure will earn me some scorn). Many of the hashtags we follow are content and photo scraping farms. They are foundational to the worst parts of the interwebs. I had to de-penguin my Insta.

Seeing "what's up?" prompts me to think "the sky." Why, yes, I do have an adolescent in my house. Works, though, for this platform.
