I was just about to get up to do chores when I remembered that I have some adulting that needs to be done. Ugh. Making phone calls is the worst.

You cannot convince me that frat brothers organically walked into separate police interviews using the same word, “consensual,” and that it wasn’t coordinated. Especially after a witness told police there was allegedly a fraternity meeting to get everyone “on the same page”.

Is this any way for the President of the United States to talk? One day he's suggesting to Iran that they can take out Los Angeles and San Diego and the next day he's threatening past and current Democratic Party leaders. And SCOTUS is totally cool with this.

I'm just sitting here thinking how freaking weird this whole year has been. Clearly I should not be reading posts because between the antisemitism, misogyny, politics, rape, plague, just everything, I feel like the whole world has jumped the shark. This show is past its prime. Time to cancel it.

I'm not sure what's "bizarre" about it. It just lists random crap based upon buying history. Mine says I have a cat. Haha. I have two. Y'all guessed wrong! It also says I travel a lot. Bzzzzt. Wrong. I hate to travel. But I know why that's there. I bought some travel supplies.

I'm really quite miffed that neither of the packages that I expect to arrive today have shown up yet. This is going to impact my napping schedule. More importantly, it impacts my ability to provide tasty forbidden treats to Ronny because we have run out of his favorites. Woe to Ronny. Needs snax!

There were these things called "maps". They were printed on paper and you might have a handful of them if you regularly went to different cities. My personal favorites were the Thomas's Guides. Also I just, you know, *paid attention* to things like streets and how the city was laid out. Easy peasy.

The sitting president of the United States just stood before a “crowd” of his supporters & suggested Iran “take out” two American cities, adding that it would be a “small price to pay”, and somehow that’s not the lead story on every newscast this morning. Not even in the top 5.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

If USA Today is indeed unilaterally putting source interviews in some sort of database, in their entirety, allowing them to be cherry-picked by other reporters—and *AI*(!!)—that is journalistically indefensible and no one should ever talk to them again. Is this true? Is it Gannett wide?

So we don't get to be "the fun ones," and we don't get asked back, because when our official duties ended, we didn't go to the bar to join the after-hours social party. It's not required, not mandatory, but the social impact is very real.

I have been a guest at conventions where, during the pre-con walk through, my handler has pointed out the bar and mentioned how some guests are "more fun" and "get asked back," then names only men. Because a lot of female guests aren't comfortable hanging out around alcohol with strangers.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Exactly this. And in fact, many models *have* been created this way, and decades of prior machine learning systems *were* created this way, consensually. These things are choices! People are STILL working this way! It’s not just that a better world is possible — it already EXISTS. We can nurture it.

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

I know it's all just parasocial and I don't know people here at all, but the relief at learning someone's illness is something joyous and with finite end (child birth) as opposed to anything dire and potentially disastrous (though then again, pregnancy is fraught with dangers) is very real. Whew.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."
