“we can fantasize about raping people on livestream but if anyone thinks anything bad should happen to us as a result we will try to get them fired” sums up the state of right wing “intellectualism” pretty well

Seems like if you're going to make a national story out of Hasan Piker, who campaigned a few times with the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, saying Israel causes antisemitism, you should also make a national story out of the favorite intellectual of the US Vice President supporting Hitler.

Our ancient wisdom traditions have good reason for asking us to cultivate more compassion for present suffering, not less. If your ethical theory rejects this, then it's not worth the tokens it cost you.

Trans people have been warning y'all for years that they were perfecting tactics on us to use on everyone else. The reporter of this piece, Christina Jewett, contributed to that too. She helped fuel the moral panic over puberty blockers in trans youth. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/05/h...

We've reached the open use of anti trans slurs phase by Trump. Dems haven't done shit to call out Pete Hegseth and Nancy Mace doing it so now it's become normalized.

Setting aside that these are both odious humans, it's a good example of how the right just talk over the top of people who are proving them wrong, even when it's someone else from the right. They lie and then they shout so noone can hear them being corrected.

Minor issue on the whole, but I like his valuing of life based on whether it is "economically productive," measured by contribution to GDP. Measured directly, Paul Erdős's "economic productivity" was basically negative as he crashed on people's couches doing meth. But his true value is enormous.

“leftist” cinema, no matter how ideologically biased you may consider it, gets standing ovations & awards at major festivals & ceremonies for its artistic achievements, whereas “conservative” might as well be made by AI... ever since riefenstahl, the nazis haven't exactly had any great filmmakers.

lot of people talking about new coalitions of middle powers. but i think the argument is pretty compelling that in our age,of that's the way you want to go? you've got to get a sovereign nuclear deterrent. that'll be expensive. but it will be worth it.
