Here’s the perfect being I’ve been spending my time with. That is all.
An adorable black & white speckled super mutt with a black spot over one eye cuddles an emotional support moose and keeps owner (already inept at social media) from doomscrolling every time.

The secret to success? Get behind your gifts— allow them to lead you.To allow your gifts to lead you, you need to inhabit them. To inhabit them, you need to understand them. That starts with claiming their tools! To claim the tools, learn them. To learn them, find them. Step 1: FIND your tools!!!!!

I call it “joyful rigor” when I explain this effort to my students. I don’t believe in or rather, I’m not a “suffering poet.” I’m a writer who enjoys writing. The work works on me and I’m grateful for the opportunity to delve into the process at my own pace and to be changed by it.

It is not lost on me that we currently don't have a United States Poet Laureate. Ada Limón's second term ended in April. I don't know if there have been other gaps; all of the information I can find suggests that the Poet Laureate position has been filled officially since 1985. 1/3

“We love us” Earth Day book sale collaboration! Read on! 🌱🌟🌍
Photo of author: medium-brown femme with curly hair, foliage in background.
Text: I have been thinking very much about belonging – not in terms of ownership or possession, but what it means to have acceptance as a natural and purposeful part of something. These early months of the year in particular, forces are out here trying convince so many of us that we don’t belong or have a right to the existence earth summoned us for.

Eco-chick that I am, I know that we belong not only on the earth, but to it. I know that we rightfully deserve to love the earth and each other, and to have these stories of our collective care on and with this planet, heard.

To that end I am celebrating this Earth Day with a sale in collaboration with The Lupine Collaborative, The Lupine Collaborative is a literary organization advancing environmental and climate justice by abundantly resourcing Black women, non-binary, and transgender environmental/climate writers to ideate, write, and build toward a liberatory future.Text on blue gray background:

Listen, things are fucked, but that doesn’t mean your accomplishments don’t matter. Wrote a book? Got accepted to a program? Recorded a song? One year sober? Whatever it is, share it. Maybe your joy will bring someone else a bit of joy, and we all need that.

BY GWENDOLYN BROOKS
That time
we all heard it, cool and clear,
cutting across the hot grit of the day.
The major Voice.
The adult Voice forgoing Rolling River,
forgoing tearful tale of bale and barge and other symptoms of an old despond.
Warning, in music-words devout and large,
that we are each other's harvest:
we are each other's business:
we are each other's magnitude and bond.
