Is anyone else's kid going through their Robin Hood phase? I'm enjoying it *so much* but also feeling stunned at how subversive it feels to talk with a 5-year-old in 2026 about idolizing outlaws who rob from the rich to give to the poor. Where's my parent support group?

In addition to producing hazardous air pollution and endangering pets and wildlife, fireworks make the 4th of July the most common day for human-started wildfires in the US. The West is a tinderbox - maybe it’s time to consider alternatives without catastrophic consequences.
A graph (frequency distribution) showing number of wildfires caused by lightning (purple) and humans (red) by day of year for the coterminous United States from 1992 to 2012. There is a sharp spike in human-caused fires on July 4 (annotation pointing to this spike added by me).
