I have my computer back up and running with a new drive and (begrudgingly) Windows 11. The GPU was totally cooked, and needs to be replaced. Using a loaner the repair guy lent me that's 11 months older than the one that got cooked until I get a replacement, so that's fun I guess.

Though it’s always weird when no effort is made to explain why the card game with rules is being used as the means to accomplish the ends of the plot. In DM, it’s because the game is the successor to the ancient duels and the only way to inherit a Millennium Item properly.

Something that would have felt better for Arc-V if it was properly leaned into; the card game not being bought and sold but a manifestation of a person’s heart/soul. It gives that vibe a lot at times, especially with how some cards just happen, but it’s never owned up to.

5D’s we establish that the main cast have zero means of acquiring cards through normal means. Zexal is when characters start running decks that much more resemble real, constructed decks, and Arc-V the card game is more like a Magical Girl situation than an actual game.

If the game in-universe has basically no good structure decks, and acquiring cards is incredibly difficult with a horrible rarity spread, it makes total sense that nobody would have won with Exodia before that first episode. It’s even established a little when there’s only 4 BEWDs ever made.
