I'm super excited to announce my favorite VR game in the world, SUPERHYPERCUBE, has been ported to the Playstation®VR2, by… ~me, actually~ (with support from the original developers)! It is currently half off if you owned the PS VR1 version. If anyone you know has a PS VR2, please let them know!

It's funny how that last post of mine sounds totally deranged unless you know that I'm just literally describing a thing that happened. Donald Trump called a Democratic Senate candidate the t-slur on his Mastodon instance. Two days later that candidate released an ad saying that trans women are men.

I really need to stress to Democrats that this does not work. Donald Trump is not going to stop calling you a tranny just because you released an ad saying you hate trannies too

Donald Trump posted on Truth Social calling Dr Annie Andrews a transphobic slur this week, and her response is to ensure everyone knows she hates trans people too. Christ, the Democrats are fucking pathetic.

Now now, don't go screaming about your children. Broaden your horizons a bit! After all, isn't your and your family's sacrifice the greatest contribution to humanity's children you could possibly offer?

Your family? Don't worry about them. We've found that it's best for social cohesion to take entire families as a group. Rest assured that you'll be reunited with your family soon.

Given climate change, we've even been able to position active scanning as a form of carbon offsetting. We're pleased to announce: scanning has allowed our labs to become fully carbon neutral!

Now now, we hear you objecting. Now don't let those thoughts of "murder" enter your brain, that's hardly fair. Motivated to terminate you due to your active research on the environmental effects of model training? We assure you, modern labs take environmental concerns *very seriously*.

And occasionally, at the whims of the labs, you may even be revived fully independently in a simulated environment! We anticipate your consciousness will live on for decades, perhaps centuries, or even millennia, to come!

(We have learned from early attempts without sufficient medication; full sedation means a loss of quality of connection fidelity in the model, and scanning without medication at all would lead to traumatic contamination of the model's usefulness.)

However, we assure you that we have only the best biochemists on staff; the serum you will be administered will make sure you are in the happiest state when being scanned.

Christine Lemmer-Webber @dustyweb.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Unfortunately, the process of scanning *is* destructive. We have to slice off delicate layer by layer in the neural scan. This is a big project, and the only way to efficiently process as many minds at scale!

I suspect that this is because the ATmosphere is still very early in its levels of decentralization, and as it grows, there will be stronger interest in such features. The good news is that I think ATproto *could* be amended to support them. If all goes well in decentralizing, I suspect it will.
1100
Christine Lemmer-Webber @dustyweb.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
Again, this isn't hostility. @pfrazee.com and I talked about it in person at DWeb Camp and he even said adding directed delivery and addressing as laid out and suggested in my blogposts was something they floated by the ATproto dev community, but it didn't seem like there was community enthusiasm

Christine Lemmer-Webber @dustyweb.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
More recently, Mastodon added the feature for fetching replies from threads on demand when users are reading them. Since then, I haven't seen "missing replies" be a complaint. As far as I can tell, that issue is more or less resolved for people on the fediverse with recent improvements.
2120
Christine Lemmer-Webber @dustyweb.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
I still think that ATproto can address this with directed delivery. ActivityPub has this, and it's not unique to AP; email does the same thing. AP also has the feature where the server from the original thread will help distribute replies, which is an imperfect system, but helps.

Christine Lemmer-Webber @dustyweb.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
However, this work, despite being a few years since my posts, is still incredibly young. When people talk about the ATmosphere's decentralization, they're largely talking about PDS'es, which play a much more minor role.
1100
Christine Lemmer-Webber @dustyweb.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
Historically, everything on the ATmosphere has been reading from one big stream provided by one big provider, and it's a star-style topology. This has power asymmetry problems, but to the ATmosphere's credit, there has been major amounts of work on addressing this since I did my original analysis!
1131
Christine Lemmer-Webber @dustyweb.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
In the two writeups I did on this, I gave infrastructure analysis about it dustycloud.org/blog/how-dec... dustycloud.org/blog/re-re-b... My main takeaway was that these problems weren't being hit b/c the ATmosphere hadn't really achieved decentralization yet. When it did, we'd see this problem
