Yeah I think you had a typo in your first reply “higher” instead of “lower”. We usually use ERVs in New York because of hot humid summers and dry winters

Gregory Duncan @duncanarchitect.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Remember, you can avoid 311 heat complaints easily if you have a building designed to the Passive House standard

How does it lower indoor RH?

Gregory Duncan @duncanarchitect.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
In New York this would be limited to six stories, and we don’t really have courtyards like this. On the plus side, bathrooms are required to be accessible here.

Gregory Duncan @duncanarchitect.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
ERVs also have a bypass function that automatically (or manually) allows ventilation w/o heat and humidity recovery
010
Gregory Duncan @duncanarchitect.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Right. An ERV (Enthalpy/Energy Recovery Ventilator) recovers >60% of the moisture that would otherwise be gained in summer or lost in winter. So ERV does bring in humid air if the absolute humidity outside is higher than inside but much less than ventilation w/o enthalpy recovery.

From the AI “chain of thought”: “Now a syntax check plus a stubbed smoke test—I can’t run Revit here, but I can fake the pyRevit/Revit API surface and run the full logic against the real CSV”

AI isn’t conscious but it does do stuff very analogous to human thought. I’m building some custom tools to make Passive House design and documentation easier with Revit and Notion.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

A really smart thermostat would realize that its goal isn’t to set the air temperature of a room but to provide thermal comfort to the occupants. Following this goal maniacally it would then solve climate change instead of killing everyone.

NFRC - one number for one size of window at a very low outdoor temperature. It encourages smaller spacers that perform better at 0 °F instead of wide spacers that perform better at 0 °C (and at 30 °C). NFRC better for determining heat load in cold climates. ISO for energy modeling.
