I probably have to write some kind of a thread here on B12 deficiency and why we're basically screwed – most doctors are terribly ignorant about proper diagnostics and treatment, and the existing tests literally can't identify many cases of functional deficiency meanwhile more evidence appears

I don't know what is sadder: that the persons like Andrew Ng or François Chollet, who helped so many people learn basics (and more) of AI (pre-genAI) and DL go totally obsessed by LLMs, GenAI and so on... ...or also how crazy it all has turned into some kind of fanzone with praising comments

Am I surprised that a sociopathic narcisstic billionaire obsessed with immortality gets upset by negative comments on that he got a diagnosis (which is sooo well known to me, btw) that scares him a lot? Of course not. Maybe there are other reasons to be angry at him among chronically ill people?

academy is just so dead now and I particularly despise people in the NLP field, as you know, they've been using this hype for their own careers, and they still do but they speak about the ethical side of all this and DO SOMETHING for, like, I don't know, 1% of the time? even less?

geocaching rules (especially as seen by some reviewers): you can't name the source of information, as it's considered "commercial promotion" or so geocaching is still a product of an American company, by the way what is ok and not prohibited by the rules, though: stupid AI slop pictures

4. As Jevin West and I have been saying for several years now, because a seemingly credible message no longer implies a human sender, LLMs will push us toward more emphasis on reputation and status — and as such serve as an anti-egalitarian force in all aspects of society, science included.

Left: In a desperate effort to find reasonable use case, OpenAI is running ads during the baseball playoffs about how you can use ChatGPT to plan a road trip. www.youtube.com/watch?v=go4o... Right: What happens if you actually do that. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Open AI commercial about using ChatGPT to plan a road tripHannah Read, 37, tried to use an AI chatbot to plan a trip to Norway with her partner and three children.

She wanted to drive from her home in Flintshire, north Wales and cross the North Sea by ferry.

"I thought it might make for a nice drive," Hannah says. "I asked ChatGPT if there was a ferry from the UK to Norway and it said there was one from Newcastle to Bergen."

She later checked a ferry travel website but found no such route exists.

A travel blog detailing how Brits can reach Norway says the last time the route operated was in 2008.

"I did feel a bit disappointed when I found out the information on ChatGPT was incorrect, as I'd got quite excited and had started planning the trip in my head," Hannah adds.

"My advice is don't rely on AI 100%, it's better to still do proper research."

We're Google, and we're going to brick your perfectly functional thermostat after buying the company that made it.
Starting October 25, 2025, Google will no longer support the Nest Learning Thermostat (1st gen) introduced in 2011 and Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen) launched in 2012. Over the years, we’ve brought out newer thermostats with even more ways to help you save energy and stay comfy. As part of our ongoing efforts to provide the best possible smart home experience, we are transitioning our thermostat infrastructure to a new platform offering significant advancements in performance, reliability, and features that will greatly benefit our customers. Unfortunately, we’re not able to move our older thermostats to this platform.
