As Canada is learning (the hard way), the "art" of all of Trump's deals can be summed up in a single word: "renege": pluralistic.net/2026/07/22/t... 1/
A Canadian flag, its elements replaced with circuit boards. In the foreground, a bent-double, exhausted Uncle Sam trudges over rocky terrain, shlepping a giant sack on his back. Centered in the maple leaf is the word SORRY.

I need to talk about Sen̓áḵw. This word has been in the news for years, and I still hear it mispronounced constantly—by journalists, politicians, and well-meaning people who just haven't been shown how. It's a word from the Squamish Language. Let me walk you through it. 🧵

I've been told that Ken Sim told his team that a stranger waived a physical photo at him during a Chinatown event and falsely claimed that it was Orr dealing drugs on Christmas Day. The mayor doesn't remember the specific contents or style of the photo, and can't remember who showed it to him.

Ken Sim has to hold a press conference today because: - On Day 1 Sim threw his councillor under the bus for false drug dealer claims - On Day 2 Sim was revealed to have also said it, but ducked the press -On Day 3 Sim said “I apologized” on a loop without saying why So now we get Day 4

In light of Sim saying that he said Orr dealt drugs based on seeing a mystery photo from a mystery person, I think it’s important to reflag this. If this is an uncharitable interpretation, the mayor is free to provide more details of how he ended up seeing such a photo and believing it.

I watched the fascist murder video so you don't have to. I don't recommend it, & I have some unoriginal thoughts: 1. Some folks join paramilitary organizations aspirationally, because they'd really like to kill people. 2. Fragile Male Ego. 3. This could happen here, too.

I've decided on Fahrenheit 451 as my final book of the year. I have read Bradbury, but for some reason, never this one. Usually I skip the forewords but decided not to, and I'm glad I read this one because it was lovely, and ended thus.
So here, after fifty years, is Fahrenheit 451. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I’m glad that it was done.

Here’s something that’s really important for everyone to understand. If we design our cities just for cars, they fail everyone, including drivers. If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers. Spread the word.

Here’s my humble pitch: we stop calling Vancouver’s housing market a “slowdown” or “slump”, implying that it was a great time before. And instead, consider that after three years of similar numbers, acknowledge a new reality that everyone should adjust to.

Two things can be true at the same time, Canada. 1. Yes, I’m disappointed with some of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s approaches so far, particularly around climate action, and his definations of “nation-building.” We should expect better. 2. Carney is still light-years better than Pierre Poilievre.
