I’m a learning geek. I adore children’s perspectives + expertise. I’m grateful everyday for family partnerships. I’m in awe of the work teachers do to cultivate children’s brilliance. I’m a science nerd. I’m a disabled, queer, scholar. All of this leads me to a #SlowResearch approach.

What’s happening is a lot of people who thought a little fascism just meant clearing out some undesirables and making the trains run on time are realizing that actually yes they too will be effected and it’s making them slightly nervous.

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

This is the definition of a failed social media platform.
For scientists who use social media to encourage followers to visit external links (websites, papers, etc.,) here’s some data from this blog. For nearly a decade, Twitter was the #1 or #2 source of traffic to the blog almost every day. It hasn’t been in the top 10 sources of traffic to the blog in years, and a single SheetMusicPlus.com article from 2016 generates more traffic here than all of Twitter. So far this year, Bluesky is responsible for about 100x as much traffic as Twitter. AltMetric reports that despite Twitter having 10x the user base as BlueSky, BlueSky users share almost as many scholarly publications as Twitter users- and Twitter’s numbers are declining as Bluesky’s rise.

Reading the awful news out of University Chicago's Division of Arts and Humanities and the formation of a committee that is apparently exploring the question, "Is there language teaching that we can do via ChatGPT?" should make it clear that GenAI is an anti-worker technology of austerity.

I was thinking about this the other day. The absurdity that the wealthy ruling convinced the rest of us it’s better to fight for tiny bits of power(money) rather than chose to ditch the system in favor of relational care. Why do we believe that survival for me only happens at the expense of you?!

Gutting funding for public media will cut off news sources for millions of Americans. That’s exactly what Trump wants: to exert even more control over the news and information that the public receives – or doesn’t even receive at all. It’s a hallmark of dictatorship.
