Saw it at a Lowe’s and posted it on iNaturalist and it’s the second individual of that species reported in Nevada. Probably came in with some plants or something.

Supposedly, in the nearby and much, much colder, ghost town of Bodie, CA, winter firewood theft due to high wood prices cause some miners to booby trap firewood with carefully hidden sticks of dynamite. 🧨

Fine here! 1.50 inches of rain at my house but just typical street flooding. Lots of gravel in the streets. Family in Florida got a direct hit but are fine. Lots of down trees but power restored in a day.

As weird as this whole thread is, this analysis is super cool and interesting. I know little about nuclear chemistry but this is certainly a clever bit of analysis and probably quite routine for the lovable nerds at DOE. Eh. They probably got DOGED in 2025 and are texting high school chemistry now.

How do I know Hegseth’s order to deny access to bases to members of Congress is about a cover up, not about safety? Because I asked for a military briefing at the embassy as a substitute and was told the policy prohibited military leaders in the region from even talking to me.

Yeah, that’s a puzzler. Looks possibly like a smoke plume to me. Hot fire but put out quickly (or maybe a poorly tuned diesel was started that is running better), and the surrounding air mass is really stable so the cloud of soot is slowly dispersing.
