I genuinely think LLMs are an interesting technology with a ton of potential but so far the main achievement is exposing the foolishness and limited critical thinking skills of a lot of elite people in business and government.

Tiny car people obviously think they should be afforded the maximal privilege and license due to a motor vehicle in our society while Saskatchewan and the city of Moose Jaw see them as filthy pedestrians to be suppressed.

We [sometimes] ditched the kool-aid up until a little over a decade ago. We've sent Dem senators to D.C. in the past. I'm crossing my fingers hoping we can do so again come Nov. Letlow is a maga disgrace. This state doesn't need more of that.

Floor-crosser Marilyn Gladu "accidentally" leaves conversion therapy pamphlets around Liberal Convention
MONTREAL - Attendees at the 2026 Liberal Party Convention have reported finding conspicuously-left pamphlets for a "Shock Away The Gay" conversion therapy camp, apparently distributed by newly-Liberal MP Marilyn Gladu.

I guess Carney has zero standards. A list of Gladu's greatest hits: 1) opposing cannabis legalization, she read a poem in the House urging MPs to "keep our great country safe from all the weed." 2) in 2020, she suggested using the military to end pipeline protests... bsky.app/profile/thes...

should I write the rest of the post or is this the whole thing
Here’s the thing: all the code, good or bad, that ever existed until a couple of years ago was written by non-deterministic meat sacks of widely varying reliability, knowledge, skill, intelligence, skill, and interest.[^1] These human coding systems (HCSs) were, as a rule, very poorly understood by the people employing them to make software. They were instructed in highly ambiguous natural language. They were given oblique incentives only vaguely related to their proximate goals and even less related to the firm’s overall goals. And if one of these coders is complex and unpredictable, imagine how complex entire teams of them would be. Ensembles of teams! Thousands of these coders working in parallel.

Did anyone ever say, “the problem with this software team is that it’s non-deterministic!” That would be very strange.

“The wealthy cultural elite who run the media really, really wanted Trump to win” was a much better way to explain what happened in 2024. And the things we’re learning from the Epstein Files give some pretty solid evidence as to both how and why. The anti MeToo backlash was EXTREMELY important.

This is a fun and accurate cartoon. My comment is that cynical and feckless MPs are downstream of the electorate taking zero interest in the quality of local candidates. The average contested nomination is decided by someone who could put forty people in a room. It’s harder to get a job than a nom.

The report also includes this delightful note about the new Finch West LRT:

"Real‑time Line 6 vehicle location and arrival prediction data is owned by a Metrolinx vendor and access is limited due to firewall/security constraints, preventing the TTC from publishing via GTFS-RT."

Firewall and security concerns? Come on. It’s the location of public transit. It’s public by definition.

One of the disorienting things about working with LLMs is the amount of garbage in the information space. There’s often frothy hype when a new technology arrives. You serve your users by assessing the tech without buying the bullshit, but it’s never been harder: all this nonsense is unprecedented.
