Incredible moment in NCAA history: A circuit judge in Florida actually referenced CALVINBALL in order to make a piercing point about the NCAA's case—while ruling in favor of Gators men's basketball player Denzel Aberdeen. The fifth-year player is suing for one more season and currently eligible.
Yada yadaBill Watterson: Ohio State fan, perhaps? Classic Calvinball colorboard cartoon from the '80s.

The LAPD union is spending millions to defeat a half cent sales tax that would fund firefighters www.latimes.com/california/s...
The Los Angeles Police Department's officer union said Tuesday it will oppose Measure FD, the half-cent sales tax measure on the Nov. 3 ballot pushed by the city firefighters' union - setting up a bitter and expensive clash between two of the city's most powerful unions.
The Police Protective League said it plans to spend several million dollars on broadcast and digital advertising as well as mailers to oppose Measure FD, which if approved by voters would direct hundreds of millions of dollars annually to the Fire Department to build new stations, hire firefighters and upgrade

When you run some of the storylines into the ground after several seasons, a new character can be an easy move to open up new opportunities.

People in Ithaca sent a message to those who would normalize sexual assault on campus, paying a visit to Cornell’s main administrative building, Day Hall, which houses the office of the university president. If graffiti didn't change anything, it would be legal. crimethinc.com/KillPower
Day Hall at Cornell University vandalized early Monday morning, October 5, 2026, with graffiti reading "Smash the patriarchy" and "At Cornell, rapists are protected, protestors are expelled."

Again: No method exists for projecting the economic impacts of sports stadiums. What we do know is that no stadium has ever generated enough new tax revenue to pay for itself. There's a reason you have to hire a paid consultant to come of with these numbers: they're bogus. @gpropheter.bsky.social:
But researcher Geoffrey Propheter, a professor at the University of Colorado-Denver who studies stadium financing, cast doubt on the district looping in businesses that could be miles away from the stadium and calls for incentives that align more closely with the footprint of the stadium itself. Some economists regularly question the touted economic impact of pricey, publicly-supported stadium deals around the country “There’s no way you could draw something this large and with a straight face say, ‘I’m only targeting people who are here because of the stadium,’” he said. “Now, if that was true, your TIF would be only the stadium footprint. Even then, that’s not precise.”

When I played softball for the first time in several years during a time in my life where I played basketball twice a week, I thought I was going to be inanimate the following morning. The “standstill-to-immediate-sprint” part had me thinking I would never walk again.

When my father was faculty at Cornell he was stopped by the police chief in the street & asked who he was & where he was going. When he balked at the fact that no one but him, an Arab man, was being asked, the chief said “I’m just protecting students” Same guy failed to investigate 7 rapists.

I know a guy who kicked at four schools in five years (80% or better FG each of his four years). One program, their S&C coach wanted him to bulk up when that’s the opposite of what you want (smooth lever movement, hip/core strength).

I promise, the coaching kickers (and punters) get is from specialist coaches in the offseason. The overwhelming majority of coaches know nothing about the mechanics of kicking.

UConn is not nearly the team they were last year (nine wins). Also, the announcement of starting non-running QB followed by starting running QB only happens once.
