What are #Neutrophils? why are there so many? how are they shaped by disease? how is it that they maintain memory despite their short lifespan? Our views on this and much more written with #Ivan_Ballesteros for @cp-cell.bsky.social 👇 authors.elsevier.com/a/1mFj9L7PXu...

Architecture of the neutrophil compartment - Nature
Mapping of the neutrophil compartment using single-cell transcriptional data from multiple physiological and patological states reveals its organizational architecture and how cell state dynamics and trajectories vary during health, inflammation and cancer.

Fetal liver #macrophages support red blood cell production and pyrenocyte clearance in the developing embryo. Stifter, Greter et al. demonstrate that XPR1, a phosphate exporter and regulator, is required for the development and function of fetal liver macrophages. rupress.org/jem/article/...

Today, we see the fruit of 5+ years of teamwork. We have built a map of the neutrophil compartment (mostly in mice - but also humans). It provides a biological structure that focuses on a single immune cell lineage to discover the many ways in which neutrophils "interpret" physiology.

Thrilled to share our Perspective on structural immunity, where we discuss how immune cells double as architects, weaving and reshaping the fabric of our tissues. Grateful to @drusqui.bsky.social, all co-authors, and the wonderful @natrevimmunol.nature.com team for making it such a joy to write!

Matrix-producing neutrophils populate and shield the skin - Nature
A population of neutrophils in the skin produces extracellular matrix, providing a defence strategy by reinforcing the barrier properties of the skin and helping to block the entry of pathogens.
