Ook indirect een groot probleem voor alles wat globaal een nauwkeurige tijd en plaatsbepaling nodig heeft. Very Long baseline interferometry (VLBI) is de enige techniek die met de benodigde nauwkeurigheid de orientatie van de Aarde ten opzichte van de sterren kan bepalen.

(3) Ocean stratification can attenuate tidal amplitudes. A stronger stratification (contrast in layering) leads to stronger baroclinic tidal *currents*, which essentially takes energy away from the barotropic *tidal height* component

2) Changing cavities under retreating ice shelfs in Antarctica modulate global tides too. Ice shelfs tend to dampen tides. In particular in the Weddel Sea, the future retreat of the Filchner‐Ronne Ice Shelf causes more energy to remain in the M2-tidal (Kelvin) wave when exiting the Weddel Sea.

The GNSS Data & Products Thematic Core Service (EPOS-GNSS TCS) will support the participation of two Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in the ECR session at EPOS Days 2026 (16–20 March 2026, Cagliari, Italy). Selected ECRs will give a flash presentation and a poster, with travel support provided according to EPOS rules. Eligible applicants must be PhD students or have obtained their PhD within the last 7 years, actively use EPOS-GNSS data or products, and be able to attend the event. Applications (single PDF) including abstract, motivation, and a recommendation letter must be submitted by 5 December 2025 to communication@epos-gnss.eu
