Nick Schindler @drnickschindler.bsky.social · 01/05/2026Yes, and it’s a careful echo system to balance. My feeling at the moment is that national recruitment and funding systems are great for efficiency, and risk missing more specific local training needs. 000
Nick Schindler @drnickschindler.bsky.social · 30/04/2026The nuance here is huge and I suspect very different based on specialty. If struggling to get to theatre because of ward work, more trainees might increase theatre time. Same for clinics in medical specialties. Big numbers impacts continuity of inpatient care, but is that a trainee’s problem? 100
Nick Schindler @drnickschindler.bsky.social · 30/04/2026Yes, and I would suggest that is because there is no money for jobs, not because there is no work to do. Training places seem entirely disconnected from consults requirements and the moment and we desperately need to think again. Hopefully with investment in the consultant workforce. 100
Nick Schindler @drnickschindler.bsky.social · 30/04/2026What does the data look like in Australia? We have a fixed number of posts in our programme. We could report empty posts, but this won’t take into account slot shares, mat leave, & people out of programme. With more than 40% LTFT, CCT dates change often. Data should be available, but which data? 100

Nick Schindler @drnickschindler.bsky.social · 17/10/2025I think this also speaks to the increasing complexity of GP workload. They are consistently overwhelmed and it is easier just to say “no,” as all shared care agreements are discretionary.
