I’ve always seen (in practice) that mentoring and line-managing as conflicted roles. There are some amazing line-managers who go out of their way to offer mentorship. But from a mentee’s view point, being mentored by someone who holds power over them is a tricky position.

At least this is how I view mentoring. Like once you’re in a position to be able to mentor it’s important to do that and follow the Pay It Forward concept. Important to do positive things for early career folks like senior mentors did for us. But for good and not for ourselves/The Cookies.
