The origins of the PA project have intrigued me. The conventional narrative is that various plucky heroes went off to the USA and were impressed by what they saw there with regard to PAs, AAs, SCPs etc. Brought the model home and persuaded others that it was A Good Thing. 1/

PAs are seen as an intervention to improve NHS efficiency. Efficient and cheap are not synonyms - so it is really important to understand the nature of the product being considered. @drlkvaughan.bsky.social comments about the nature of the 'medical assessment & care' product are very helpful.
