My beef with Morrissey runs all the way back to 1986 when he said this about Black artists. Nineteen Eighty Six, while the Smiths were still active. It’s not a “later phenomenon” don’t try and lie to me www.standard.co.uk/culture/musi...
1986 — "Reggae, for example, is to me the most racist music in the entire world. It's an absolute total glorification of black supremacy... I don't have very cast iron opinions on black music other than black modern music which I detest. I detest Stevie Wonder. I think Diana Ross is awful. I hate all those records in the Top 40 - Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston. I think they're vile in the extreme... Obviously to get on Top Of The Pops these days, one has to be, by law, black," he told Melody Maker.

I have been watching international rugby for at least 30 years and I don’t think I have EVER seen players appear to be getting ready to jump a ref over a decision. I think that’s genuinely disgusting.

Summer eating. Papaya, sugarsnap, and peanut salad in a soy, tahini, and ginger dressing. Yes please.
A papaya, sugar snap and peanut salad on an irregularly circular blue paint. It’s sitting on a bench I’ve hand painted with flowers and the snout of my Rottweiler his opening to snaffle some

In this climate, wishing you 'all the best for your future career' feels like a passive aggressive sign-off. How about 'as an institution dedicated to research and educational excellence, we will do everything we can to support UK academia beyond our own hallowed halls', instead?

Ok, look, what's been particularly infuriating about the redundancies at Exeter (and Nottingham and Newcastle and and and) is this weird idea that it only affects those individuals and institutions. It harms us all because we are so closely interconnected.

Yeah. I think also that my big complaint is a reason that it will work for other people. And it is about a core SFF principle (how we engage with colonialism) but even there, I don’t think it’s an execution or originality issue. I simply object to the choices she’s made haha.

As someone in the minority in how much I hated TMoT, I think that’s a hugely unreasonable reason to take against it haha. Weirdly, I thought the handling of time travel was genuinely the most interesting and sophisticated thing about it.

Stumbled upon an entire album of Philip Glass' 3 Pieces in the Shape of a Square that was meant for two flutes and arranged here for saxophones but being performed by a trumpet (??) and how weird to discover an album that seems like it was specifically created just for you.

Back on this - I REALLY need policy makers to look at the context of only children who are also latchkey kids. And when boomers yell “read a book”, I will tell you that reading 200+ books a year thanks to living near a less spotted library did nothing for my socialisation.

Imagine if we just: 1) fined companies that don’t have real people moderating content for harm 2) regulated the financial model around child influencers and family-focused content that centres kids 3) underwrote non-digital spaces for young people to enjoy and socialise in
