It bothers me that I live in a city and nation where our largest rape crisis centre needs to do an urgent fundraising appeal. I wish RCCGlasgow well in their appeal, but I strongly wish it wasn't necessary and that they had sufficient resources so that victim-survivors aren't left waiting. #VAWG

These systemic issues affecting basic rights have arisen at a time of some speculating that Barlinnie prison could be kept open because of prison overcrowding. I'd argue that this weekend's infrastructure failure is a textbook illustration of why it must close. news.stv.tv/west-central...

Today is World Day Against the Death Penalty. I went on BBC Radio Scotland to discuss plans in the US to live-stream capital punishment by showing a military execution by firing squad. A grotesque spectacle of cruelty. A public execution would put the US in the league of Iran and Afghanistan.

It is concerning and sad to think that, to give plausible examples, a Black, migrant security guard in retail or a Scottish-Pakistani Muslim Police officer may face racist hate crimes in Glasgow. Nothing about (far-right) "tensions" makes racist hate understandable. They should be safe regardless.
Text from the Herald article which reads:
A Police Scotland report reads: “There is a sense from our community engagement that there is an increase in local tensions impacting both our communities and migrants.”

“Police officers and security staff within the retail sector continue to be the groups most affected by hate crime."
