@sarahdbunting.bsky.social There is a specific L&O episode that I love and am deeply afraid to submit to the EHG canon lest it not get in. And yet it hits almost every darn trope in the best way. (And also, rewatching it, makes me want to rewatch L&O and get judgmental about spinoffs.)

The first Peanuts strip by Charles M. Schulz was published on October 2, 1950.
Four black and white panels of a boy and girl sitting on steps.
1st panel: Charlie Brown is approaching and the boy says:
"Well! Here comes ol' Charlie Brown!"
2nd panel: As Charlie Brown passes, he says "Good ol' Charlie Brown...yes, sir!"
3rd panel: "Good ol' Charlie Brown..."
4th panel: Once Charlie is gone, "How I hate him!"

@scotttobias.bsky.social I have caught up on Slow Horses (and therefore your reviews!), and I honestly think this show is maybe the best adaptation from book to screen I can think of (and I have read all but the most recent book (the show got me into them) and am rereading Joe Country now!).

As someone who has benefited from fingerless compression gloves for hand issues, I’m a little surprised there are no Spider-Man versions of these. I feel like I am ‘80s-era super cool as I try to remember which Agatha Christie short story to read next!

Drew @drewcompton.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
@sarahdbunting.bsky.social Sarah, there’s a mild and boring story behind this, but an older EHG got me to watching a lot of Teen Titans Go this summer, and, in anticipation of Lanterns premiering, I was wondering if you had seen one specific clip from the former show that overlaps certain topics.

There is probably a market in Spider-Man-themed compression gloves.

Drew @drewcompton.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
I do not necessarily think that Sad Cypress is Agatha Christie’s best mystery (and I have no opinion on what that would be anyway), but something is working in there that is extremely emotionally true. “This,” I thought, “is genuinely how a real person feels.”

I thought I could finish Lonesome Dove before July 4, but I cannot (it is longer than I thought it was and taking longer to read than I thought it would, none of which is a criticism), so now I have (there is no one to blame but me, and this is not a problem) five books to start by Independence Day.

I am reading Lonesome Dove for the first time and it weirdly makes me think of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera in its narrative flow. I got a lot of the Marquez book way back when I first read it, but it’s the structure that really stuck with me.

This is not my original thought and I can’t remember who I got this from, but Hercule Poirot’s Christmas has, effectively, the same plot as The Brothers Karamazov, which is pretty darn interesting to me. Uh, spoilers, maybe?

It is interesting to me that Appointment with Death is where Poirot gets actively irritable about murder. In previous books he does not countenance it. He thinks that once one commits murder then it becomes easier. But here, he is angry about it.

Hm, a cat (I think a neighbor’s) just ran across the front yard. This is good news. The back yard belongs to the dog and the birds and any unwelcome front yard visitors are welcome to the neighbor cat. We do allow opossums to proceed unabated through the yard, of course. Wonderful creatures.
