Do poor people hate rich people? “Politics of envy” is one of those explanations we hear so often it barely sounds like a theory anymore when it comes to inequality. So I looked at what the experiments actually say. youtu.be/mt0jf2VdCdQ #inequality #behaviouraleconomics #fairness

This is *the* main continuity between neo-fascism and the 20th Century variety. Erich Fromm argued exactly this in "Escape From Freedom," saying that modernity left many alienated and socially dislocated--and fascist strongmen promised to restore meaning and purpose to their lives.

Discussing gender, power, and empowerment in my psychology of gender class this week. I ask all the women what they do and buy to feel empowered. I ask men the same and they are confused. I ask whether we are sold individual empowerment to divide us and move our energies away from collective action.

It's all so normalized. It takes 7 men raping a young woman for us to see this level of outrage, and even now, it's mostly centered on the punishment of these seven rapists, rather than the larger picture of violence. I appreciate Solnit's point that much of the outcry is missing the point.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Dr. Jane Goodall died #OTD in 2025. She was a primatologist, anthropologist & conservationist regarded as the world’s foremost expert on wild chimpanzees. Her field research revolutionized our understanding of primates & redefined what it means to be human. janegoodall.org #WomenInSTEM
A feel-good photograph of world-renowned primatologist and anthropologist Dr. Jane Goodall (1934-2025), famous for her groundbreaking, decades-long study of wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park. In this intimate shot, Dr. Goodall is positioned on the right, her profile turned left toward a young chimpanzee resting its hand affectionately on her shoulder. Her gray hair is tied back in a signature low ponytail, and she wears a white button-up shirt with thin red and blue vertical stripes. Her eyes are closed, and her mouth is puckered as she mimics a vocalization, creating a profound, empathetic connection with the chimpanzee, who tilts its head back with its mouth wide open in a matching vocal expression. The background is a soft, blurred palette of green and tan nature tones, keeping the focus entirely on their interaction. The composition exudes a tender, joyful, and harmonious mood, highlighting the historical significance of her revolutionary approach to treating animals as individuals with minds, emotions, and distinct personalities.
