Fifty Years of Vegan Animal Rights Activism. 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of my life as a vegan and my full-time work for animal rights. I became a vegetarian in 1974 after working in a chicken slaughterhouse. I have saved the lives of at least 18,440 animals in 50 years as a vegan.

Six years ago today The British Library came to my office and took away 36 boxes of research materials that became the Kim Stallwood Archive. It’s now catalogued and available to read and use for research. An important accomplishment in preserving the history of the animal rights movement.

Photos taken on a recent visit to Monk's House near Lewes in East Sussex. This was the home of Virginia and Leonard Woolf. Now managed by National Trust. The volunteers were excellent at talking about the Woolfs and how they lived there. A visit to Monk’s House is always very special.

Remembering Mary (“Murderous Mary”), who was killed on 13 September 1916 in Kingsport, Tennessee, for wanting to eat watermelon. A railcar-mounted industrial derrick hung her. A veterinarian examined the body and declared she had a severely infected tooth.

2026 marks the 50th anniversary of as a vegan working for animal rights. I saved at least 18,440 animals in 50 years as a vegan. Every year, 110 million pigs reared for food in the United States; 680 million in China; 10 million in the United Kingdom; and 300 million in the rest of Europe.
