Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 15mI failed to watch Labyrinth several times at film night in primary school. The falling scene with the helping hands was seriously horrific for me. Still never watched it. 020

Comms have gone out to all Crick grant holders, but the tl;dr is "no more spending your CRUK grant money on OA funds". Lot's of other ways to make your paper OA though, so don't forget to talk to your friendly, neighbourhood library team. 042
Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 01/10/2026When I saw this being launched I couldn't understand the design. Why make it bepedal, why make it so tall? It was always going to fall/be pushed over 😂 I'm impressed that they actually managed to make Evri worse! 040

Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I either think of it as work time (if you can arrange shorter days on site) - helpful for bigger picture stuff. Or I treat it as the time I might just be sat on the sofa at home. Queue up good streaming tv on phone (always download, don't trust wifi). Or kindle. 210

Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Okay, but my original post was about supplemental data not counting as open data in our policy. Not about whether people should be sharing their data. You seem to be arguing against a point I'm not making. 100
Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I've always been of the opinion that if you think your data is genuinely useless to others then just put in a few examples. But put them in a repository rather than in a document at the end of the paper. 100
Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026But is it honestly less work formatting it into a word or pdf file than putting the original files with a quick readme into figshare or zenodo? I know my research has a tiny amount of data compared to yours, but I've never found that it would be easier to format it for supplementary data. 100
Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026100% - if you share things as supplemental data at the Crick it's not data sharing according to our policy. Because it's nearly always in a form that's difficult to use (tables as pdfs etc.) 161

Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Yeah, I was in a union as a postdoc. There was literally no point, they weren't interested in us, I don't think they ever did anything for us. Far too busy worrying (only) about academic pensions. 111
Dr Beth @drbeth.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Obvs hate this re unions. But also, I've always felt that PGRs were the equivalent of apprentices with the thesis essentially being the apprentice piece. Postdocs = journeymen. Employed by a master but not bound to them. Considered competent. They are workers, and so unionisation is appropriate. 150
