Dear Dr. Baym,
Hello. I am dog. I would like to do a PhD in your lab. I was told I am already half Lab, so this seems efficient.
I have seen the video of your very big plate where the bacteria evolve across it. It is the best thing I have ever seen that is not a ball. I promise I will not lick it. I have thought hard about this promise and I am fairly sure I can keep it.
My qualifications:
	•	Excellent nose. Can probably sniff out resistance, and definitely sandwiches.
	•	Strong background in fetch, which I understand is most of grad school (papers, reagents, coffee).
	•	Highly motivated by treats, praise, and plasmids.

A thing I recall, but cannot confirm, is that demand for concrete was so high that the state ran short of cement and for a time concrete blocks were being made with the least possible amount of that. We worked on cars, we put them on blocks, and there was a real difference between new/old blocks.

That was a lot, and much of it was literal green-field development, had to upsize everything again and again and again, Pasco schools were on both double sessions and 45-15, "temporary" classrooms all over the place, etc. So my estimate for maximum sustain growth/change is 3%/year.

I don't think I believe that; EV uptake in many other parts of the world has been pretty quick, and there are limits to how fast we can build stuff. When I was a kid in FL, 3 counties, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, added 3% to their population every year (cumulative) for 20 years. ...

Man, imagine you're minding your own business, getting kind of drunk with your friends at a picturesque brewery in Maine, when suddenly John Roberts walks by and you get to start heckling him. Must have felt incredible. That's the dream. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...
The chief justice used to preside over a Supreme Court whose members were afforded more privacy and freedom than many other public officials. Once, years ago, Mr. Lipson and the chief justice found themselves up the peninsula from Port Clyde without a car, Mr. Lipson recalled in an interview. So he stuck out his thumb by the side of the road and a pickup truck pulled over. He and the nation’s top jurist hopped in the back and hitchhiked back to town.

Now, Mr. Lipson said, he is cautious about introducing his friend to strangers. This year, on an outing to nearby Monhegan Island, people recognized the chief justice as he walked by a brewery and started to chant: You should be ashamed.

A book that has gotten a lot of attention but never as much as it deserves is Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams. It’s an insider view of Meta’s venality: they promoted the European far right in order to stave off regulation. And it’s sadly conspicuous that journalism about Meta is a non-factor.

Counterpoint: my late father-in-law could hold his own playing Gin Rummy, when he would ask the same question every 5 minutes and could not remember if he had eaten dinner, showered, or anything like that. I am willing to believe that grifting is similarly central to Trump's identity and mind.

Our first investigation, published last week, revealed that the Bradford campaign is using the Victory App. The way it works: supporters are given "missions" that can include posting messages (generated by AI) on social media. They earn points for those activities, which may be traded for rewards.

That's manual cargo, years ago, when I was stronger, but I've never weighed less than 100kg and my legs tend large. I switched to steel chainrings, that helped a lot, I also upsize the ring and shortened the crank arms (170mm->160mm) to slightly reduce forces on chains.

T-Rex: #1: Chad!T-Rex: This is an easy first place, because I knew a Chad once.
Dromiceiomimus: I knew a Chad too, and he wasn't even FROM Chad!
T-Rex: That makes him a true Chad, because otherwise he might've just been trying to rep his country.T-Rex: #2: Mali. I don't know a Mali, but if I met someone who said "hey my name is Mali" I'd probably say "oh cool!"
Utahraptor: Huh!

Utahraptor: I'd probably say "Sorry, Molly?" and she'd say "No, Mali" and I'd say "Oh okay."
T-Rex: Either way, a solid contender! #3 is Kazakhstan, because I would like to know a guy named Kazakhstan.
T-Rex: "Kaz" for short.God: SORRY DID YOU JUST RATE KAZAKHSTAN AS A NAME ABOVE JORDAN OR GEORGIA BOTH OF WHICH ARE ACTUAL IN-USE NAMES
T-Rex: ...Maybe?

This is true. In 2016, I got into an argument with a gay man on a menswear forum. I've since made it my mission to make every man dress gay, thereby destroying his ability to tell who is actually gay and, ultimately, his chances of finding love. I built my social media following to achieve that goal
Someone on Twitter writes to me: "People should follow your advise if they want to look gay."

If I'm on the plane, and a flight attendant says "excuse me, are you willing to change seats with a woman because the guy in the next seat is a creep", I probably say yes, and then I don't go out of my way to make the other guy comfortable. Normally I try to fold my large self up somewhat.

Isn't backing in safer? There's no chance of cross vehicular traffic, much lower chance of cross pedestrian traffic, versus nose in and backing out later. Someone needs to explain the problem to me -- I mostly avoid parking, since usually I just ride a cargo bike.

It depends on how you are using their output, and at what scale. At work, writing code far from humans, "let the toaster try", with the option of discarding the output, is a fine approach, especially since I'm not paying the toaster's power bill. Prose or art, that is far riskier.
