Women couldn't be outlawed in 13th-century England because they were never put in law. Instead, women accused of crimes were ordered to be waived if they failed to appear at trial. The consequence of waivery was the same as outlawry's: execution (often immediately and without trial). 🧵1/4

I'm convinced the reason Americans hate taxes so much is that we see virtually no tangible benefits from them. We still have to pay child care, education, healthcare etc all out of pocket. Our roads are crumbling, there is trash everywhere, people go unhoused, we lack decent public transit etc etc

I haven’t been able to ride my bike for 3 weeks while recovering from surgery and it’s crazy to see just how much cycling improved my mental health. I don’t sleep as well, I’m less attentive at work, and I’m just generally more grumpy. Hopefully next week that changes
