More available jobs tend to raise wages, but do strong labor markets improve job quality, too? A new study by @bradhershbein.bsky.social Katherine Lim, @dougwebberecon.bsky.social and Mike Zabek finds they do—and not just because more workers change jobs. bit.ly/4gJcoSs

Game of Thrones, but each house is a different statistical software package. SPSS dies in episode 1 after stumbling off a cliff or something humiliating. COBOL is a surprise entrant late in the series nobody has heard of, but it turns out they have been secretly running things behind the scenes.

1) Saw a live musical for the first time in years, which is saying something because I was a very heavy consumer of musical theatre most of my life 2) I can't stop rewatching my favorite song from the show (below) 3) Ana Gasteyer was amazing (as was the rest of the cast) youtu.be/tpwCZokDwmE?...

Oh yeah, it is great today. But the upcoming storm feels like a cruel joke given that the ice that was here for 4 weeks JUST melted.

+1. Yesterday was literally the first day that enough of the snow from last month's storm had melted that you could see the grass.

1) Unless you disagree with all of them. 2) You mean disagree with rejections and give an r&r, right? 3) right?

Doug Webber @dougwebberecon.bsky.social · 06/01/2026
Absolutely! I feel it as a referee when I get to see the other reports. Depending on my recommendation, I always worry that 1) I am being stupid and missing the valuable contribution, or 2) I am being stupid and missing the fatal flaw. It feels so good when the other reports say the same thing.
020
Doug Webber @dougwebberecon.bsky.social · 05/01/2026
1) Definitely 2) There is a Rorschach Test here in whether this is interpreted as you giving R&R/Accept or a Reject.
