A person on the internet. The cats are Grizelle (the floofy one) and Sombra (the little one.) I teach programming for a living, but if you know someone hiring a software dev with e-commerce, full stack, and education experience I'm all ears.

That's fine as long as the couple involved aren't sticks-in-the-mud. Backyard wedding implies fairly casual friends-and-family-only as long as they don't own like an estate or something.

The entire loop of using AI coding agents is built to disengage the user. It lets devs be idea people (ideas are cheap), then it drowns them in the part of the process that is hardest to do right and easiest to skip (code review), while taking basically all of the thought of implementation out.

In Cyberpunk 2013 there's a bit about your empathy hitting 1 or less leading to mental problems, which kinda feels very prescient all things considered.
An excerpt from Cyberpunk 2013 about cyberpsychosis titled "Blazing Brains".

It starts "When a character's Empathy descends to 1 or less, he's going to have some serious mental problems."

A Labor Day reminder: having a job is no longer enough to protect millions of Americans from homelessness. For many workers, the greatest threat isn't losing their job. It's that their job will never pay enough, never provide enough hours, never offer enough stability to keep them housed.

This all starts with a secret handshake between writers and yard workers, a mutual understanding that if writers don't leave cans behind, and they don't touch the identifying numbers on the cars, then there's largely no harm. Writers will go to meticulous lengths to respect the latter rule.

Finding out RKM was a terf a number of years back really changed my reads of a lot of the Altered Carbon series. I don't know if he still maintains his blog, but he maintained that after getting kicked off of pre-Musk twitter for excessive transphobia, and I remember it being pretty awful.

Overall it looks nice. Scale feels right, but it took me a sec to figure out what the seams in the glass wall were. I can't imagine how to take that picture without a flash that would show up in that glass wall but I also don't think anyone will notice barring people who've worked in photography.

Most (if not all) jurisdictions only let you expunge nonviolent crimes, and the process involves going before a judge if the DA objects to your request. The real concern is what is the company running this doing with the data that they are collecting.

So yeah, we are potentially losing stories to greed. You should have an opinion, because stories are important, even the pulp sci fi.

dotfortun @dotfortun.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
I mean, fuck: like 40% of the first few years of Doctor Who are lost media because it wasn't deemed relevant enough to save back in the 70s. And even more media that wasn't as big is completely lost, and even though it might have been schlock it was still worth preserving.

dotfortun @dotfortun.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
So in short: this isn't an apples to apples comparison. When a bookseller destroys an unsold book, sold versions don't get removed from the secondhand market. You can still buy them. You can still read them. And it doesn't matter if they are historically important, preserving media matters.
110 1
dotfortun @dotfortun.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
The people doing this aren't doing it because they hate books, but because they don't give a shit about preservation and it's somewhat cheaper for them to ingest the text this way. This is a matter of they don't give a shit about anything but potentially making slightly more money.
110 1
dotfortun @dotfortun.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
There's a big difference between ripping the cover off of unsold copies because the publisher requires that and buying up sold copies and despining them as it is slightly cheaper to scan them that way.
