Just got my full color copy of Banned Book Club and what looks like some original art from No Rules Tonight! I'm so excited to read Banned Book Club again, I donated my original copy to a high school classroom so I've been without for awhile. :) @ryanestrada.com @ironcircuscomics.bsky.social
What looks to be original art from the graphic novel "No Rules Tonight" by Kim Hyun Sook & Ryan Estrada. A black and white panel with Hoon and Hyun Sook whispering the foreground with 2 men with ROTC shirts laughing in the background while holding masks

These ppl don't understand anything. To them everything is just some thought exercise that can be solved by just being smart enough. So much of science is, "So this is weird. I wonder why X does that?" LLMs will never have intellectual curiosity bc you can't create that using a statistical model.
Models will outsmart Nobel Prize winners. These models will control objects in the real world and may even design their own custom computers. Millions of copies of the models will work together-imagine an entire nation of geniuses in a data center!

Bye-bye cancer, infectious diseases, depression; hello lifespans of up to 1,200 years.

So, we're just out of ideas huh? An AI powered dog washer? If this ever comes into being and you put your dog in it, then they should immediately rehome your pup.

Don’t believe the Trump administration’s lies. De-funding the NIH, excluding students from specific backgrounds from funding, and excluding research studying women and other underrepresented groups is not “efficient.” It’s destroying science. arghavan.substack.com/p/do-not-be-...

The more I think about this list, the worse it is. The people who came up with it presumably think AI is the solution to everything, so why not run the abstracts through AI to determine if it's too woke? Either they don't believe it's "smart enough" or it's too expensive at the scale needed.

The more I learn about the failed coup in Korea, it was so close to having been SO SO bad. History books bad. But the people have learned from their history and acted SO QUICKLY to stand up for their freedom en masse and hold politicians accountable that it was over before many knew it happened.

So I have been promoting this like crazy to friends but by coincidence this weekend I read Banned Book Club by @ryanestrada.com and it gave me some great context around the history of Korean democracy that was helpful in understanding the broader implications of what happened yesterday. 📚👀 #booksky
Book cover for Banned Book Club by Hyun Sook Kim, Ko Hyung-Ju and Ryan Estrada. The cover is illustrated and depicts Hyun Sook in the foreground and student protestors in the background with banners and masks. The cover is illustrated and depicts Hyun Sook in the foreground and student protestors in the background with banners and masks. Around the title text there are black redaction bars.

Back cover. It shows illustrated panels of student protesters and summarizes the book plot with the following text:

"It's 1983 during South Korea's Fifth Republic, military regime that has entrenched its power through censorship, torture, and the murder of protesters. In this charged political climate, a freshman named Kim Hyun Sook seeks refuge in the comfort of books. When the handsome young editor of the school newspaper invites her to his reading group, she expects about Moby Dick, Hamlet, and The Scarlet Letter. Instead, she finds herself hiding in basement as the youngest member of an underground banned book club. And as Hyun Sook soon discovers, in a totalitarian regime, the delights of discovering great works of illicit literature are quickly overshadowed by fear and violence.

In BANNED BOOK CLUB, Hyun Sook shares her dramatic true story of political strife, fear mongering, the death of democratic institutions, and the relentless rebellion of reading."

This is a really interesting article exploring bird flight. The explanation of the complexity of feathers is fascinating. #scisky #sciencesky
“Feathers have 10-micron 3D hooks on their surface that prevent them from going too far apart. It is the only one-sided Velcro system in the world. This is something that has never been engineered, and there is nothing like this elsewhere in nature,” Lentink says. Those nanoscale hooks, when locked in, can bear loads reaching up to 20 grams.

Then there are macroscale properties. Feathers are not like aluminum structures that have one bending stiffness, one torque stiffness, and that’s it. “They are very stiff in one direction and very soft in another direction, but not soft in a weak way—they can bear significant loads,” Lentink says.

Certainly one of the more unique Cybertruck wraps that I have seen. I can't really find a coherent theme.
Cybertruck with a pink wrap. Across the front it has the stylized "Cybertruck" font along with Chinese characters and art. The passenger side has several ducks with sunglasses along with the words "Big Yellow Duck" and a money gun with the words "super duck" printed on the side in the Supreme font shooting $100 bills in USD.

On one hand it's very bad that so many of our political compasses boil down to 'it's only fascism when it affects me' but on the other hand at least the Trump campaign has made a pretty concerted effort to make sure almost every possible demographic know, "Yeah, I'm talking about you too."

Great article by Katie Notopoulos on how the biggest news story in the country last night was covered by a student-run radio station. It's so easy to dismiss legacy mediums but they sometimes end up being the most relevant in certain situations. www.businessinsider.com/columbia-uni...

Columbia's student radio station was the main source of information for the protests. Here's why that matters.
Without any outside press allowed on Columbia's campus, its student radio station WKCR was streamed by thousands of people nationwide.
