I’ve turned off autocorrect, but there’s still typing assistance from “swyping”—like why capitalize rogue but not dragon*con? I’m still salty that autocorrect got dumb enough that I had to turn it off.

No, the capitalization was a typo. The guest’s name was Christian Hubicki of Survivor fame.

to ensure that something that seems right is (see things like: apophenia, specification from compsci, Weizenbaum's critique of original chatbots, Clever Hans, etc) is to have the specification. Without it you can never rule out that your cognition is picking out what's right and ignoring what's not.

Mea culpa: I posted a factoid about Games Workshop’s total economic value relative to the fishing industry and the UK economy that was incorrect. Games Workshop’s total revenue in the last fiscal year was a little over half of the entire fishing industry, not larger. Check your sources, Patrick!!!

If it makes you sad that the public domain is 100 years old you should've voted better or destroyed the constitution or capitalism.

David Rolfe @dorolfe.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Claiming Fair Use, doesnt mean using something fairly, it’s a pleading that affirms infringement in a copyright lawsuit. When you say your use is fair use you are agreeing your use is infringing the copyright of an author. If you want non-infringing use you should use public domain material.

Abolish ICE. Fire them all. Prosecute their crimes. Start with prosecuting the crimes first and work your way backward if that makes you more comfortable. But we cannot live in a country with this level of elite impunity.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: on the set of the Jerry Springer show, a man sits in a chair. Jerry signals off-stage and says, “we have with us: your ancestor who crawled out of the ocean 375 million years ago!” Panel 2: the live studio audience is booing. Panel 3: security attempts to break up a fight between the man on stage, and his ancestor, a tiktaalik.

Even if you earned a salary of $1 MILLION DOLLARS AN HOUR… it would still take you a year and a half of working full-time to earn the money this guy could afford to just give away. People forget how big a billion is, even compared to a million. And a million is something most of us will never see.

If/when you start playing world of warcraft forever, read every quest. Read every word! It’s wild that reading is under attack, but that’s a tiny way you can push back. Lots of games are just full of words and you can read them!

The moon shining super bright behind the dark leaves of a tree. The silhouette of trees takes up 75% of the picture, the rest taken up by the night sky.
