Gargoyle concept Explanation in Alt Text #art #worldbuilding

Gargoyles create aqueducts that control the flow of water in their environment. They then spend most of their lives "standing guard", the sound of rushing water attracting prey need their thirst quenched.

Gargoyles do not move when perceived by any other creature, their stone bodies make them seem like statues more than actual living creatures. Even line of sight breaks, they'll tend to remain still.

The water around Gargoyles is known for being particularly fresh - almost uncannily so for their environment. It is perfect for drinking, and that is exactly what they'd want you to attempt.

Once a creature has drank or removed water from their aqueducts, Gargoyles take advantage of their hindered perception and lowered guard to strike, seeking to rend and feast on their prey. If their prey reacts fast enough to see the Gargoyles they will immediately freeze up again, just like statues, as if they had always been in that position.

Soup, oh poor Soup, points at themself, with a lone exclamation mark.
They do not seem to have a distinct eye color.
Chloe does not point at herself; she stands still, surrounded by a dark aura.
Flick politely asks her, "What's yours?"
Chloe responds, "'Whuzzi.'"
As Flick begins to search her mind for what color that could possibly be, Chloe begins to snicker.
She interrupts Flick's thinking, yelling, "Whuzzi-to you!?"
The power of this joke evaporates Flick in a concentrated beam of energy.

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, a Shy Guy is trapped in a water wheel after being bullied. The internal name for this pose is "crucify". This suggests that the original intent may have been for him to actually evoke a crucifixion before it was decided this may be in bad taste.

In Cherry Lake in Paper Mario: Color Splash, a stack of 4 Shy Guys try to bully a fifth one to join them. Not wanting to be forced, he runs away.
As he runs away, he becomes caught in a water wheel, with one of his feet being trapped in it. It drags him through the water, making him soggy.
Internally, this pose for the Soggy Guy is called "crucify".
Looking at the way his foot is caught in the wheel, it does seem like there is nothing to actually get caught on and the sprite may have originally been drawn for something else.
It is possible that originally he was caught on two crossed planks or something similarly evocative before it was decided this may be in poor taste.
