Starship Troopers remains one of the great movies of all time, most notably because people conservatives didn't realize it was satire. I'm doing my part!

My semi often Baltimore transit complaint: taking the light rail after work to hunt valley, but I feel like we could solve 20% of the city's transit woes by just giving the light rail right of way. Why am I sitting in traffic downtown while on a train!

@beyondvideo.bsky.social sidewalk sale is the best. It was packed! Love seeing the physical media-heads out and about. Only downside is that I'm running out of space on my shelves, and each time I go there are fewer movies to get next time.

I think that people experiencing winter heating bills made a huge difference. Maryland is an outlier, but our electricity costs increased *89%* (www.visualcapitalist.com/mapped-where...). With how cold it was, my bill was double what it was last year. Data centers are an easy scapegoat

Buying cars is one of those things everyone universally agrees is a horrible experience for the consumer. I literally heard a salesperson yell at a customer when I was shopping for mine in 2022. Don't love another tech takeover but if it makes some changes to the market I think that's a net positive

Because Draymond Green is on my TV: Draymond Green has 43 playoff games with more turnovers than made field goals, tied with Kendrick Perkins for the most such games since turnovers were first tracked in the 70s.

Southbound bus situation not great this morning! Sat at 25th and St. Paul for 25 minutes, SV finally showed and was packed. Didn't pick people up at multiple stops cause it was too full. By the time we got downtown, the next SV bus passed us. We can do better!

a reminder that a lot of the things people find unpleasant about cities - along with the noise and dirtiness - are largely a product of filling them with cars. get rid of the cars and the pleasantness of the environment improves dramatically

This also misses the main point of the language discussion: thinking a person is undocumented but their actions are illegal has one response, thinking a person is illegal means they aren't subject to any rights and you lock them into prison camps without due process. Framing does matter!

Something I struggle with in these conversations with friends is the focus on the hardest to house individuals. Building market-rate doesn't necessarily solve housing for the highest barrier individuals, but we shouldn't let that block awesome progress for everyone else!

This to me is the main lesson from Zohran. Not necessarily that left policies are good electorally (even though I think they are) it's that if you actually have strong convictions on something even if voters disagree they at least respect you. And that gives you space to get them on your side

All this to say, make 25th Street 3 driving lanes (one turn lane in the middle) with protected bike lanes on both sides. Everyone keeps their parking. What are we doing here people!

One funny side effect of the snow storm is that it's proved how many of these roads you could turn into one land and it would be totally fine. Obviously more people are staying off the roads so it's not exact, but I feel like Baltimore should actually use these instances as real world test cases.

I ride my bike to work, and Monday night walked down 25th Street where I live (in the middle of the street because sidewalks weren't clear, including one I shoveled in front of a row of vacants), and saw that this was the bike lane. Glad I can telework but many others can't!

This one is specific to bike lanes, but I'd just add that the diagram also omits drivers not looking both ways on a two-way bike path, particularly on one-way streets (this happens to me at least once on every commute)

2025 was the best year for our city's shared mobility program to date. As a city, we took over 3 million rides during the year, reaching over 3.9 million miles covered on shared e-bikes and scooters. This is nearly double the rides Baltimore took in 2024! www.bikemore.net/news/2025-in...

Do you think it's worth $15bn to add more cars, which has statistically been proven to not minimize traffic congestion? If you're in favor of that, adding 6% to the budget for a multi-use path feels pretty small.

The Elam ending is the most "radical" solution but also would have the largest positive impact. No fouls, game is won by actually playing. They don't want a game to end in a free throw, but literally every close game ends with free throws but in a worse way. Plus, crazy comebacks are more likely

In the last month in Baltimore alone, a cop is indicted for a political blackmail scheme, a cop is indicted for trying to murder someone with a police car, and the *commander* of a district is under criminal investigation. Beating a dead horse, but what more needs to happen to stop funding them?

Very happy to have a local newspaper doing great journalism for the city. When I ran a housing program I was shocked by how many checks I mailed out to New York (not to either company mentioned here). Crossing my fingers the city and state can mitigate this fallout

On the bus downtown and the bus lane is just filled with cars and all the buses are delayed. Obviously no traffic enforcement in sight, even during peak hours. People complain the buses don't work, drive their cars, then block the bus with their cars. Should've just risked biking in the storm!
