Save Our Sailors rang a faint bell as something I'd heard about in the past, and found archives of the old sites from 1996. It was a 'procott' campaign, organising the mass buying of products advertised on broadcasts of Sailor Moon in an effort to get the whole show aired in North America.

What's A Procott?

TV Shows are presented by advertisers. They pay TV stations to put their commercials on programs. One of the major reasons that "Sailor Moon" was cancelled was because not enough advertisers wanted to put their commercials on the show. They thought not enough people were watching the show AND their commercials.

To prove to advertisers that plenty of people were watching, we organized a "procott." A procott is the opposite of a boycott. A boycott is when you stop buying something from someone to protest what that someone did.

A procott is when you get everyone you know to buy something to convince someone to do what you want.

We decided to ask all the fans of the show to buy one, just one product, which had been advertised on Sailor Moon. This should encourage ALL of the advertisers to come back.

Welcome to my Save our Sailors page. It doesn't have much on the real S.O.S. page, but it's my little bit to help the show out. Right now, it's just a collection of pictures, basically a mirror of those on the real S.O.S. page (albeit an unofficial one), but there is also a bit of personal info as to why I'm sacrificing all this webspace for this page and this show.

OK, well, those of you who know me know that I'm a big fan of Japanese animation, or anime. Well, Sailor Moon is Japanese animation that has been adapted by DIC Entertainment (hereafter referred to as "NegaDIC") after licensing it from Toei animation and the Japanese toy giant, Bandai (hereafter referred to as "NegaBandai"), which makes the Sailor Moon dolls and toys. Well, the show was realeased first in Canada, and then here in the U.S. about a week later via syndication. The show was a tremendous success in Canada, being the top rated show in it's time slots ranging from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in most parts. Sadly, it did not reach this popularity here in the States. Of course, the fact that NegaBandai never advertised during the show, nor did it even advertise the Sailor Moon toys it makes more than a handful of times didn't help the show much. Then again, maybe it was the fact that the show was on at 5:30 in the morning in many areas (such as mine), that caused the low ratings. Whatever it was, Sailor Moon just didn't take off in the States like it did in Canada. Or did it...
