The text in the field guide reads as follows:
[Page 1] "Common Raven: Distinguishable from other corvids by rasping, throaty vocalizations, tail shape, and "beard" of throat feathers beneath beak. Significantly larger than its nearest relatives; sexes similar in size. Typically all-black iridescent plumage, though leucistic and piebald individuals do make rare appearances."
