Further to that, are there any artists using smartphone #photography to make fine #art?

Can anyone point me to a good book or article/s about using Phones to make photographic ‘art’. Fine Art #photography, not how to use tips and hacks, and not generating or editing pics, but discussions about making art with your phone. Is a Leica more legit than a Samsung?

For the change in season, four seasons. One Oak Tree Hill, Four Ways (2025/26). South Downs National Park, Hampshire UK. #Scape #ClassicMono #Photography #EastCoastKin www.dirtmeetsthewater.co.uk/triptychs
A polyptych of four black and white photos, arranged two over two, of identical compositions of the same wind-stunted Oak tree on the top of a south downs hill, in spring, summer, autumn and winter. The tree stands next to a road that leads the eye to the horizon and into the cloudscapes beyond.

If you don't already know it, you need Scott Lavene's music in your life, and you really need to see him live. Last night's show at the Wedgewood Rooms in Pompey was equal parts hilarious, magical, and heart-wrenching. @scottlavene.bsky.social scottlavene.bandcamp.com/album/cars-b...

If there is any justice, 2027 will be the year of Scott Lavene. Lyrically and sonically - and live - he’s here to make you glad you are too. Catch him on tour from mid-September.

1982 A friend at school had the first Sony Walkman I'd ever seen and let me try it by putting on an album I'd never heard that starts with demonic bell tolling.... Hells Bells. Back In Black with headphones sledge-hammered my young mind. I've never recovered, happily.

Powerful and important letter about artificial so-called intelligence from Sheila Hayman from Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy, University of Cambridge, in the FT today
Margaret McGirr’s letter (“AI can lend a hand, but it will struggle to replace one”, July 21) and Chine McDonald’s guest column (“This retro revival is more than a longing for the past”, Opinion, August 7) both touch (sic) on something that should be obvious, but is carefully ignored by almost everyone in the tech world. Namely that our intelligence is embodied, evolved and biological, and inseparable from our bodies.
The brain’s job is to control the body in the world; it is the last organ to develop.
Every square centimetre of our hands (and of the rest of our skin) contains about a 170 touch sensors or nerve endings, sensitive to different kinds of touch: a slap, a burn, a caress, a hug — each of which travels to different parts of the midbrain, prompting the appropriate response. Quickly to the autonomic nervous system for something dangerous; more slowly via a different channel for something carrying meaning.
In addition to the hand’s limitless versatility, it is self-repairing, regulates its own temperature, knows without being programmed how much pressure to exert on an egg, a tennis ball or a day-old chick, and can fuse neurologically to whatever it holds.
So when we put a glass down on the table or slide a knife through an apple, we feel the table, or the apple, not the glass or handle in our hand (try it!).
Finally, and most urgently, the entire human body — including the hands — does everything on 25 or so watts of completely renewable energy: a tiny fraction of what a humanoid robot, even one of the current primitive iteration of robots, needs.
The “retro revival” is thus not cultural nostalgia.
It’s millions of years of evolution crying out to be heard, before we suppress it totally in the service of an automated — and dead — planet.

Before & Under A May Storm (Diptych). #art #photography #landscape
Two black and white photos of the same scene a few hours apart: a pair of tractor tacks lead from the foreground towards a solo oak tree through a field of young crop. In one the horizon is dominated by approaching storm clouds, in the other the clouds are directly overhead.

A collage of four, equal sized black and white photos. All are of the same solo oak tree, shot from the same viewpoint, and although one has a flat foggy winter sky behind it, the other three all have dynamic skies of clouds lit by the setting sun.

Summer Storm Clouds Over The South Downs. (August 2026) #Art #Painting #Landscape #BlueSkyArtShow
A blue and white monochrome (almost abstract) expressionist landscape painting of summer storm clouds over lined fields and byways. There's a faint hint of a sloping hillside on the horizon line and faint hints of hedges and fences.
