I come back to this slice of existential dread again and again. The lyrics are so good. They were seeing the future in 2017 with some of these lines. A masterclass in slow-burning tension. youtu.be/8GfoUh7fKPs

I am constantly amazed by people who bark out all their personal details on a mobile phone on a train. I guess they have never read any messages written by people constantly amazed that they are barking out all their personal details on a mobile phone on a train and never will.

Still think this is one of the great album covers. Ship arriving too late to save a drowning witch - Frank Zappa (1982)
Cover art for Frank Zappa's Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch. The 'ocean' line cuts the bottom of the 'boat' and completes the triangle of the witch's hat, while also giving the overall impression of a Z and an A.

Anyone in the Brighton vicinity at a loose end tomorrow, I could hugely recommend English Garden at Presuming Ed’s, around 9.15 of your earth hours. They are something special live.

The thing with box sets is that even though you don't want them, because you can a) neither afford or b) need them, you know they're out there and you are somehow incomplete and not a true believer (who is this imaginary hanging judge in your head?) unless you buy them. God, I hate obsessions.

I can declare that is has already been a good day. I've found my live recording of New Fads at Sheffield Leadmill on 25.10.92 which I had begun to think I had just dreamed ever having. Good god, they were amazing in the flesh.

14 CDs of Joy Division live could tear me apart. Anyone bought it? Is it worth owning, unless you're determined to hear every last note ever committed to any audio source? I thought Heart and Soul was a pretty bang-up job back in 1997.

The thing with Tilly Norwood and all these 'digital twins' they have now is that they will never age. Or will there be an older Tilly Norwood? Or loads of them? What happens when the young/old/certain age Tilly Norwoods meet in 'real' life?

Moore. Henry Moore. So impressed by all this stuff at Kew Gardens, such a great setting for it - 30 pieces dotted about the place (til January). For me Kew is still arguably London’s best day out. Everyone there seems like they are being the best version of themselves, too.

There we are, kicking off May 1990 at Kiki’s in Sheffield. Funnily enough we - The Glass Hammers - ended up supporting two of the bands featured in subsequent weeks before disappearing, albeit with two plays on Peel, about 18 months later. (Finitribe and Bradford, if anyone was interested)
