More beautiful views from Taylor Meadows. Taylor Meadows, Garibaldi Provincial Park, BC, Canada 🇨🇦 #nature #photography #film
Landscape picture of an alpine pond, wetland, and meadow.
The water in the foreground is perfectly still amd refelcts the blue sky and tips of the trees. It transitions into reddish-brown reeds and then a green-brown meadow with occasional red sprinkles. Towards the back, more and more conifers are growing, eventually forming a forest.

Definitely not the worst place to help @tksilver.bsky.social with some fieldwork. Taylor Meadows, Garibaldi Provincial Park, BC, Canada 🇨🇦 #nature #photography #film
Landscape picture of a high alpine meadow.
The lower third of the picture shows a brown-green meadow with ocasional patches of red, some conifers, and a trail with three people going bottom left to top right.
The middle third is filled with a dark-green forest of conifers.
The top third shows a bare, grey mountain top rising out of the forest. There is a distinct black rock pertruding out from the ridge (called Black Tusk) made of basalt. The sky is light blue and cloudless.

I wouldn't call myself a cartoonist, but I had the vision and just needed it to be on paper to the best of my ability.
A hand drawn eight panel cartoon. First two panels are a colander sitting frowning on a shelf. Then the colander is frowning straining pasta, then three more panels of frowning sitting on a shelf. Then a big panel where it's projecting a bunch of crescent eclipse shapes and smiling with speech bubbles around saying "Wow! Look! Amazing! Beautiful!" And then one final panel where it's sitting on a shelf smiling.

Had a blast presenting my poster at the @aslo.org - @sil-limnology.bsky.social joint meeting in Montréal in May. Big thanks to the ASLO student committe for awarding me with an honorable mentions of the student presentation awards! 🥳 Looking forward to the next one with data ^^
A dorky guy (me) in dark jeans and a grey-blue shirt standing to the right of a scientific poster (close up in the next picture), being very excited. RIPARIAN RESTORATION EFFECTS ON STREAM CARBON

The background is formed by a profile of a stream on the left with the stream bank rising in the center of the poster and continuing flat to the right. In the center of the poster stands a tree. To the right of the tree is a field of crops (corn), below are different layers of soil.

Left side:

Stream Carbon
Gases:
• Carbon dioxide (COz)
• Methane (CHA)
Water column:
• Dissolved organic carbon (DOC)
(organic molecules)
• Dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC)
(e.g. CO,(aq), HCO;)
• Fine & coarse particulate organic matter (FPOM & CPOM)
Sediments:
• Coarse and fine organic particles (detritus)
• Mineralized inorganic carbon (e.g. CaCO3, CaMg(CO3)2)

Riparian Effects
Shading
Root respiration
Runoff interception
Organic matter input

These are connected with an arrow and ?.

Right side:

Background:
• Streams are heterotrophic and net emitters of carbon to the atmosphere
• Agricultural activity further increases CO2 production in streams:
• Increased nutrient load and light availability increase biological activity
• Rain can wash out carbon from soils unimpeded
• Increase in DOC and more bioavailable DOC species
• Small streams are heavily influenced by their surrounding landscape
• Riparian buffers are a frequent restoration method along streams
• Impacts of riparian buffers in agricultural systems on carbon dynamics are currently not well understood
Hypotheses:
H1: Riparian buffers decrease DOC loads
H2: Riparian buffers decrease CO2 production per gC available

Goals:
Explore the relationships between carbon dynamics and local and regional cover of riparian woody vegetation in agricultural landscapes
• Calculate the spatial extent of these relationships and their landscape-scale impacts
Methods:
• Assess carbon dynamics on a local and network scale for two small stream networks in the Lower Fraser Valley, BC, Canada
• Sediment cores
• Gas emissions (CO2, CH4)
• Water samples (DOC, DIC, POM)
• Stream surveys and parameters

These bees are designed in a cartoonish style, based on real species. The common name or species is written below the animals.
Some bees are moving leaves, scraping plant hair, or sticking out their tongues. Some male bees have hairy faces and unusually shaped legs. There are also baby bees that have just hatched from their petal nests. Cute and colorful atmosphere. There are over 20,000 species of bees, so I only depicted a very small fraction of them!
