Shadow Bees originally published in Dream Catcher www.dreamcatchermagazine.co.uk #poetry #bees
Shadow Bees

After years of feeling she never fitted in
and that her family just fussed around
and never understood her darkness

she dreamt bees swarmed at her window
and she welcomed them in and woke
without a single sting.

The next week she had a thrumming
box of bees on the back seat of her car –
her family watched from the house

as she coaxed the queen
into the warm pine of the new hive
and when workers flew into sunlight

her family cringed. She was positive
and for months looked forward
to warm honey dripped on toast.

The bees ignored the bright meadows
and found orchids and creepers
that rarely bloomed on the hill’s dark side

and the unrecorded black bell flower
to make a botanist faint if ever discovered
in the overgrown valley.

Those bees worked hard to collect
half frozen nectar and powder themselves
with chilled pollen. As autumn closed in

she tested the honey and shivered
and when she handed round the spoon
her family looked at her with surprise

having tasted the landscape’s darkest shadows.

A PROOF OF IMPROVISATION
AS PRAYER

If
all art aspires
to music
&
all music aspires
to math—
then

I had no idea about this aspect of Hughes' life and work.
In late 1934, Langston Hughes, already established as a leading voice of literary Black America, traveled to Mexico City, where he stayed for more than five months and began translating short fiction by prominent Mexican and Cuban writers. These stories, as he wrote to a friend, explore “the revolutions and uprisings, sugar cane, Negroes, Indians, corrupt generals, [and] American imperialists,” and are “mostly all left stories, because practically all the writers down here are left these days.” But when Hughes proposed publishing the stories as a book, to be titled Troubled Lands, his agent discouraged him from further pursuing the project and it remained unpublished, until now, with only a handful of the translations making their way into contemporary magazines. This volume presents Hughes’s translations of these stories together for the first time as he originally envisioned. Edited by Ricardo Wilson, the book also features an introduction and brief biographies of the included writers.

Troubled Lands features thirty-three stories by eighteen writers, including Rafael Felipe Muñoz, Nellie Campobello, Lino Novás Calvo, Luis Felipe Rodríguez, Germán List Arzubide, Pablo de la Torriente-Brau, and Juan de la Cabada. The collection depicts Mexico in the wake of its revolution and Cuba in the years between the brutal regimes of Machado and Batista

🧵 Sometimes being AuDHD means you don't have "a special interest" but more a shifting hyperfocus over time where you sort of collect hobbies get super into a specific topic/activity, often until an expert & then you lose interest or get sucked into something else & sometimes you're in between them

Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

It isn’t true tho. This is a question of what I believe, it’s a simple question of what the facts are. There tends to be a very strong inverse correlation between people who understand how LLMs work and their likelihood of agreeing with these arguments. I personally have no beliefs.

So much hyperbole in your claims. Again, LLMs get a ton of press but they are only a small percentage of the actual AI that is impacting our lives. I hate data center pollution too, but LLMs have little to do with that. And avoiding LLMss is still fairly easy, even jf it won’t be soon.

Like OP said, the fun is in the journey. How does the fiction aithor get to their destination? What does the destination say about the world and the characters? The point of reading is the act of reading, not whatwvwe happens on the final few pages.

This is a lot of nonsense & misinformation, but some folk seem to have a deep need to believe it. Some models were trained on pirated data, all of them were trained on copyrighted data (which has since been ruled Fair Use). This is exactly the type of response that makes honest convos impossible.

Joel Dias-Porter (DJ Reneg8d) @diasporter.bsky.social · 12/02/2026
lol. Your points are still overly focused on LLMs which are only about 10-15% of all AI. Any even LLMs are advancing at a light speed pace. Claude Code is just one example of this. 2026 will see the introduction of hybrid architectures like Titans-Miras which will address transformer faults.

Again, his point was about good faith conversations and the unwillingness of many to engage in them on this topic. Your description doesn’t match hardly any of the Chinese companies in this area for example. The snark might feel good, but it’s part of the issue.

This is an accurate description of Open AI, but not of Deep Mind or Anthropic. But thanks for making Hayes point.

Musk uses many times more data center compute to run his Twitter algorithms than he does his standalone Grok model. LLMs are only a small part of the AI convo, but the backlash is mostly about LLMs.

The first one is a foul (by the last player to swipe at the ball) and the 2nd one is a case of Brooks “pulling the chair” on Embiid. It looks awkward but it wasn’t a foul, the refs just missed the call. There’s nothing here for the league to try to stop.
