2. If we stop trading slaves / extracting fossil fuels, we will hand an advantage to our commercial rivals, who are bound to continue (because foreigners are perfidious). 3. The slaves / planet will then be worse off, because foreign slave traders / fossil fuel producers are dirtier than ours.
