Warnica is bang-on though. Bradford is cynical and opportunistic, and doesn't seem to actually believe in anything.

If it's any consolation, the way lawyers say it is also very wrong compared to the proper Latin pronunciation.

This is a great write-up of what Bill C-39 actually does to workers' rights from two lawyers that I have worked with. It is intended to, and will, gut the right to strike for federally regulated workers.

Mark Carney says he’s protecting Canadian workers. It’s Orwellian doublespeak
Subject to ministerial review, the right to strike is likely to be much weakened by Bill C-39.

I'd guess because he has at least held elected office before, and used to have some degree of public profile.

Does Bonnie Crombie also want the City of Mississauga to contribute to the operational costs of the TTC? I suspect not.

Mayoral candidate Bonnie Crombie wants the TTC subway extended to Mississauga’s city centre. But will Doug Ford buy in?
Mississauga mayoral candidate Bonnie Crombie is pitching a Line 2 subway extension. Can she convince Doug Ford to help fund the massive project?

The analogy I always think of is soccer: soccer is really hard, so difficult that even the best strikers regularly miss shots on goal. But they miss a lot *less* - and under more difficult circumstances - than a regular person or an amateur player. Humanities is a 'miss less' practical field.

Tolkien once again nailing it.
It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succor of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till. What weather they shall have is not ours to rule.

At the request of the Magistri Militum I have agreed to convert the Arcus Triumphalis, planned since the Pax Romana, to an Armamentarium to have the rapid ability to use large numbers of manuballistae, plus sagittarii on the attica & platea, & hold large quantities of plumbatae Imp. Constantinus🏺

The triumphal arch as a concept derives, directly, from Rome. The examples from which the Arc de Triomphe drew are the arches of the emperors Titus and Constantine in the Roman forum.

Classic Liberal Party short-termism. Lighting public assets on fire for short term money. When the Ontario Liberals pulled this, they called it "asset recycling" and got real mad at anyone who called it privatization.

Again I must say that they should do a 6 hr Trek miniseries based on the Battle of Wolf 359. Star off with Admiral Hanson getting increasingly concerned with the borg, he tries to get funding for a hypothetical federation warship project 'the valiant'. the federation council think he's a kook.

Oh 100%. The fact that half of the CPC base would happily serve an American occupation authority means he can't defend Canada full-throatedly without ripping his party apart, but the failure to make that defence dooms him with literally the entire rest of the electorate.

Also, the CPC is turbofucked by the fact that their own base is 50% quislings who would happily serve an American occupation authority, and so they can't take a strong position in defence of Canada without ripping their party in half.

It cannot be overstated just how dumb it was. They wanted to make Newline rename "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" because they found it disrespectful. They banned the song "I am Leaving on a Jet Plane". The background of random TV shows like "Charmed" was suddenly full of flags. I could go on

RS with your home river. The Humber River, in western Toronto. My parents would take my sister and I to Étienne Brûlé Park on the banks of the Humber when we were kids. I remember when this bridge, which is for pedestrian and bike traffic, was built at the mouth of the river.
A white arched suspension bridge over a green-brown river with a blue sky and white fluffy clouds behind. Trees grow at the near end of the bridge. At the far end, a building under construction with a crane can be seen in the background.

I suppose that's one reading of the text. He's certainly less dickish than Thingol since he didn't demand something like a silmaril for himself, but the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen clearly deliberately echoes Beren and Luthien in this element.
