Right down the middle average score for average film. I found it really draggy and frustratingly safe. It felt like a derivative supercut of plot devices from better sci-fi films disguised under very high production. Every breakthrough was unearnt, immediate, and too easy. Earth scenes > space ones

many many variables but it's at the lower end of that range, some reporting includes supply chain usage (power stations), often misreported as coming from the community the data centre is in. it's a case of people choosing the most favourable way of measuring to make the point they want to make

it was about gen AI and water usage - why is there such a huge gulf between numbers shared in the media vs what the tech companies say I was fed up of that 500ml bottle of water stat from an old paper, but also big time doubt in OpenAI's 0.3ml claim

i hope every single person who still buys harry potter merch or engages with that franchise is happy that they're literally making girl guides cry girl guides uk have been forced very much against their will to exclude trans girls. full statement is here: www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-...
This update includes information you may find upsetting. Please take care when reading.
From today, it is with a heavy heart that we announce trans girls will no longer be able to join Girlguiding. This is a decision we would have preferred not to make, and we know that this may be upsetting for members of our community.
There will be no immediate changes for current young members, but more information will be shared soon. Most adult roles - including unit helpers, district helpers and administrative support - are already open to all, so we are confident that no volunteers will have to leave the organisation.
Girlguiding believes strongly in inclusion, and we will continue to support young people and adults in marginalised groups. Over the next few months, we will explore opportunities to champion this value and actively support young people who need us.
We stand in solidarity with trans girls and women.

Not a fan of single track or shrinking the active travel corridor. But the mixed traffic is my main gripe with so much of the city centre part of existing line. Ideally they'd substantially take motor traffic off of the Dean Bridge route. Seems a more useful set of stops on that one too. Wishful.

I really dislike how science has started calling almost any fancy computational technique AI. 🧪 The framing of this entire article makes it sound like a benevolent AI independently made these drugs. That is *pure fantasy*. Instead: a team of scientists made a machine learning model for a study.

Article on BBC news.
Title: AI designs antibiotics for gonorrhoea and MRSA superbugs
Description: Two new potential drugs have been designed by AI to kill drug-resistant bacteria, in a major Massachusetts Institute of Technology study.

The damage Sonia Sodha has done by spewing hate from the Observer is incalculable. I feel it is worse than the Sun and Mail because she radicalised Observer readers who consider themselves liberal and gave them permission to be openly bigoted.

I saw an infographic a couple years ago about how to remove source identifiers from links and why it's important, but I can't find it again and too many people I know are sending me links with them so here's an infographic straight from the oven
Header text: "HEY YOU! YES YOU! TAKE THIS SHIT OUT OF LINKS!"

This is followed by a couple example urls, with a red square highlighting the sections with source identifiers. The rest of the text is as follows:

Source identifiers are used to track your activity on a site. Where you came from, what device you use, and even who you talk to. Whether it's written clearly in the url or tied to a random string of characters, it's assigned to your activity.

When you send a link containing a source identifier to somebody and they click it, it signals to the website that you two are connected. And that data goes right back to the website operators, and thus their advertisers.

Whenever you select "share" or "copy link" on a social app or website, it creates a link like this. If you give even the smallest shit about online privacy, it's important to remove them. Everything after the "?" symbol can be removed without issue, especially sections starting with "si=" or "utm_source="
