Vocations, that would be a really good idea for the kids. Ideally they'll know what all 13 of them do by the time they're 10-12 so they can pick their vocational schools. (they pick three in case the one they really want is full, or isn't really a good fit for one reason or another).

They're highly valued and people spend a significant amount of credits on them. The chess piece a little Wisp in Broken Mist takes out of a chess game would have been highly valued by the person who originally owned the game. They found it in a chest of stollen goods.

There's no mass production of board games. They can buy fairly simple games that are print on demand and mostly cardboard like. There's also kits where you can rearrange the board and use generic pieces to play several different games. There's also home made games with carved pieces. 2/3

#OctoberWorldbuilders Hello! The Talithans have board games most people would recognize and some they would not. I haven't developed any T. H. boardgames yet, I need to. Chess, or more specifically a Knight chess piece, plays a role in the first novel. There's two types of board games. 1/3

No, the prompt was for an office romance and I think I went a little too weird with it 😆 I really like it, I need to edit it and find other places to submit it.

Emoria - Aftertaste is a Horror Novel @emoria.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
My debut novel, Aftertaste, is a trans coming-of-age horror romance, following a young server forced to reckon with his true self when an Actual Demon takes an interest in him. It's a toxic yuri about surviving yourself. www.pastitch.com/aftertaste-a...

Aftertaste

by Emoria Weidner
• A celebrated trans coming-of-age story
• A lesbian T4T and T4C romance
• A horrifying descent into a dysphoric nightmare
All in one sweet & spicy yuri.
Plus, it has makeup tips.

"I really meant it when I said that this is the best novel I've ever read in my life.
- Marissa Soto on Goodreads,
5 Star Review

"Aftertaste is a transformative achievement and takes its place among
the pinnacle of the growing body of trans literature."
- Annabel Lee

"Artful, intelligent, witty, terrifying and true... With Aftertaste, Emoria Weidner has written the ultimate trans egg-cracking novel."
- Ellen Mellor on Storygraph,

"It pulls no punches and leaves the reader never truly feeling safe, with each moment of joy shining with a clawing nightmare sitting in its shadow. A powerful mirror to the lives of trans people."

- Pippa Primini on Goodreads, 5 Star Review

"An incredibly important piece of trans literature, one that I hope is seen by everyone..."
- Ashlynn Vanner on Goodreads, 5 Star Review

"Compelling characters, outstanding story, the occasional eerie feeling that the author had somehow managed to peer into my own past before setting word to virtual paper."
- Jaz Sakuranoseirei on Storygraph, 5 Star Review

"Not only did I end up enjoying it, it is now my absolute favorite piece of transgender fiction I've ever read."
- Shawndra Quinn on Goodreads, 5 Star Review

"I knew I was in for a treat, but I was woefully unprepared for how much Emoria sees and 'gets it' about the nature of being a trans woman and fighting the demon of our dysphoria."
- Brooke on Storygraph, 5 Star Review

"I've sought out and been recommended a lot of different portrayals of the trans experience - and while all of them contained nuggets that struck a chord with me, none of them have made me feel as seen as Aftertaste did."
- Royn Omberg on Goodreads,
5 Star Review

It's pulpy and spiky and difficult to hold sometimes. It's shitposty and heartfelt and horrible when it needs to be. It is incredibly and unabashedly trans. I devoured it.
Thank you for writing my favorite piece of trans fiction l've ever read.
2026's book of the year? I think I'll recommend @emoria.bsky.social's
Aftertaste. A book that really explains your existence and does what most media are too scared to do: amplify and humanise us, ironically with the help of a demon lol.
Seriously, Emoria, phenomenal work and l am shocked this is your first novel.• setnai3i s review for
Aftertaste - A Toxic Yuri by Emoria Weidner
5.0
While a hugely difficult read at times due to the content, Emoria has created something absolutely iconic within the world of trans+ literature.
It's a dark, sometimes-triggering, beautiful, and ultimately life-affirming piece of art.
It's a book by a woman who has a gift for sharing the hardest of experiences - the daily traumas of being trans today - while still demonstrating hope.
Absolutely beautiful.

I wrote a short story for a contest that put a dark version of Wonderland as a paralel universe to ours. It would be fun to expand on that world more.

#FirstDraftFall The main character is Marga. A tall and broad shouldered redhead. She takes pride in her physical strength and is always down to spar with someone. She has a complicated relationship with her parents and refuses to have a complex relationship with her partner, Ever.

Find a free short story challenge, or anything that's completely different. I had art school training and this was something they always preached (at least back then, ha). You'll see your art better if you take a break and it will come out better in the end. I use this rule for writing as well.

It may never end up in the book, but it will show you the story from a different angle. Also, if it's never going in the book you get that added bonus of not thinking about prose, story structure, etc. It can be trash writing, and maybe unlock your brain. Work on something else. 4/5

Desdemona Rose @desdemonarose.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Step away and let things play out like a in your head. You may not keep whatever your brain decides to do. But it frees you up to think of your story without worrying about grammar, prose, etc. I do this anytime I get stuck in a chapter. Write what that other side character is doing. 3/5

Desdemona Rose @desdemonarose.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
You don't need to follow a formula or anything intense. But, if you get stuck, stepping back and looking at the story in a bigger picture might help. Don't let your plans nail you down, use them as a suggestion, not a law. I heavily plan mine, outlines and spreadsheets, but I also change them. 2/5

I haven't had any serious writer's block (yet?). I've only had little boughts of it for a specific part of the story. So This may or may not be helpful. But, why I think I've been able to avoid it: - If you're a planner, do so. Even if not, having some sense of direction might help. 1/5

Especially his RP version (it's a story based forum). He makes sure the people who hurt him get what they're due. He's also a bit of a villain. 😅 In Talitha Harbor he's not. He has to confront things in a more average person sort of way. But it also makes him more relatable. Especially for me.

It's not exactly the same. His is worse in many ways, and it effects him more intently. There's other parallels not related to the trauma as well. None of it was intentional. 😅 But Idaeus also confronts his past in a more proactive way. 3/4

Idaeus, the series MC is a RPG character I made 20+ years ago. He quickly became my favorite character and has always held that spot. He was also an exaggerated character in the way fun RP characters can be. I toned him down for the novel series, then realized our trauma had a lot of parallels. 2/4

#PretendPanel Always a fun question. The quick and easy answer: For my characters. They exist only in my head, but I love them and I hope others will too. The longer and less, "fun," answer: I'm writing for me as a child who always felt trapped and had not so great adults in their life. 1/4

#WeeknightWriters The setting is Sci-fi, but the story is also a mystery. All of the Talitha Harbor novels are similar. 1st: set off by a stolen artifact, the mystery is more, "wtf, why, and what is going to happen next," vs a who-dun it 2nd: More theft, it is a who-dun it for the MC. 1/2

Ever has kept almost all of that a secret from their rightful parents. Their mothers try to be understanding, but it's hard. Their child, they assumed was dead, shows up out of the blue two sols ago. They have A LOT of questions. Marga would make sure the lunch went perfectly with no awkwardness.

Left without erasing some difficult choices, she would write Ever's anniversary lunch with Ever's parents. Their relationship is challenging. Ever was kidnapped as a young child and raised by said kidnapper. He wouldn't win dad of the year/sol. But they also have a lot of great memories with him. 2/
