It's a movie that makes you feel uncomfortable with the narrative and then reconstruct it as you go, and I'm sure some people are reacting negatively to those things.

It's making simultaneous points about the climate situation, art, and narrative control, and does so commendably. It had me--purposely--off-kilter for three-quarters of the movie, and then the tumblers all fell in place.

Say what you want about his politics, but at least Greg Stillson could hold up a kid. Vivek really is useless at everything.

On a side note, not a week has gone by in 11 years that I don’t think of this movie.

A key component of the Cambridge Analytica outrage was your friends subjecting you to data theft without your consent or knowledge. Facebook is running the same playbook on your text messages. Even if you’re not on Meta properties, they’re ingesting your interactions.
Aten installed Muse on both his iPhone and a Mac mini that he uses to test out various Al agents and tech. It took Meta a single day to begin "helpfully" pitching article ideas based on texts he'd sent to a podcast co-host.
When he asked Muse how it got the information, it said that it read banners from incoming texts. But that's not true, either.
After doing a little digging, Aten says Muse synced 187,000 lines from his Messages database, despite Full Disk Access being Off.Unless Aten is the most popular person on the face of the planet, I sincerely doubt he'd gotten 187,000 lines of text in roughly 24 hours. What happened is that, without permission, Muse went into the app and downloaded the information.
He had not given Muse permission to access Messages, and full disk access was not enabled. It just went ahead and uploaded those texts anyway.
Muse can take "unexpected actions" indeed.

Michael Tracey published what he said was the ID of the "Jane Doe" in the Cornell case. Then he took it down, claiming he just wanted to make a point and didn't want to see harm to the person he named. What he hasn't admitted is that he mistook info on a sketchy site for official NY court records.
An archived copy of Michael Tracey's original Substack post includes a screenshot from "eCourt Records" and the commentary: "It's [name redacted]. Don't blame me -- the New York Court System just posted it. Seemingly inadvertently. Oh well."Screenshot of Michael Tracey's post on Substack titled "Note on Jane Doe." It reads: "After identifying Jane Doe earlier tonight, I have now removed the information I published. Why? Because the principle has been served: to underscore that permanently anonymizing litigants who make sensational, spectacular, reputation-destroying claims about others — so long as they can self-declare some form of victimization — cannot be countenanced.

It’s destructive, and an egregious abuse of the legal system by huckster plaintiff’s lawyers. This practice has to end. Lawyers who seek to monetize this sleazy tactic should have to think A LOT HARDER about the claims they’re willing to throw out into the public domain, using impressionable clients who may not even know what they’re getting themselves into.

So why have I now removed her information?

Because I don’t believe she’s the main “villain” here. I primarily blame the bottom-feeding, media-manipulating, sleazebag lawyers who’ve made a whole cash-grab industry out of this racket.

Thomas Giuffra in particular has a lot to answer for. He’s the central reason for the current debacle.

Given the intense nationwide and global interest in this case, I don’t want to bring any further negative attention to this woman. I don’t believe she ought to be punished or subjected to any retribution or humiliation. I believe a RATIONAL solution is necessary here. Not more character assassination — of her, the seven young men, or anyone else. Truly, that is my genuine view."

A screenshot of part of the quoted Hanania post above--just the last line of it, "Women need to be told the truth"--and the picture underneath of the concept of Misery in human form, Michael Tracey, looking impossibly sweaty for a man whose ass gets chair withdrawal when he walks to the bathroom. Michael Tracey, who, when no one is watching (which is, like, nearly all the time, because, ew), unzips his human costume and lets his natural self, a slug who has only recently been released from slug jail for sweaty slug voyeurism, looks perplexed in the image, as if someone were trying to explain to him the health and social benefits of regular hygiene. Michael Tracey, the answer to the question "Which human being looks most like the pile of triceratops droppings from Jurassic Park" has no truth to share with women save this one: women should avoid Michael Tracey at all costs.

I'm reminded of the case in 2018 where cops in California coerced a man into confessing that he'd killed his dad. The cops lied, saying they'd found a body and that they were going to kill his pet dog if he didn't confess. He attempted suicide. The "missing" dad was later found alive and well.

Okay, seriously, what the fuck is this?
The top of the Google results when I went looking to see just what Mamdani's tweet that mentioned the Talmud actually said (a search for "mamdani talmud"). This top search reasult appears to link to Mamdani's Twitter account ("NYCMayor" on "X"), then has a truncated header ("Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani on ...") and then it has a vile lying antisemitic screed that ABSOLUTELY DID NOT COME FROM MAMDANI and I can only assume is some typical-for-Elon's-Nazi-website antisemitism someone wrote *about* Mamadani's post, but it's presented in the Google search results as if it's from Mamdani.

(text of the screed below, if you want to read it)
The Talmud teaches that the best of Gentiles should be killed, Jesus is boiling in excrement, and that non-Jewish souls are inferior and impure.

Mamdani's post, linked from that vile preview, in full (but a screenshot, so it doesn't include the video). Text below:

The Talmud teaches that anyone who sustains one soul, has sustained an entire world. For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city. Today, we are launching the first-ever municipal Strategy to Combat Antisemitism.

Together, we will ensure Jewish New Yorkers are safe and celebrated. We will invest in their protection, their history, and their future.

Our safety and our thriving are tied together.

Here's the conclusion of the article Cruz links to that says the opposite of what he claims is says about Writing-to-Learn studies. It's as if he asked an AI bot to find him a study about WTL that included the word "inconclusive."
Text from the article Cruz cites as evidence against learning coming from writing:

7. Conclusion

We have outlined five recent trends in the evolution of research on WTL. The first has been the adoption of increasingly sophisticated analytical tools as a means of critically evaluating theories and practices. Early work on WTL was comprised of theoretically driven claims as well as individual experiments, which produced varied and inconclusive results. During the past decade, researchers have used meta-analysis to objectively integrate the results of multiple studies. At the same time, meta-analysis has been used to identify the instructional variables and student characteristics that moderate the effects of writing on learning. Methods such as path analysis have been used to investigate the psychological processes and text characteristics that mediate the effects of writing on learning. The result has been a consensus that writing contributes significantly to learning with effects that, on average, are small to medium in size; however, these effects can be increased, depending on the extent to which moderator variables are mobilized.

Cruz could have just written "I don't really like writing or teaching much" instead of pulling inaccurate conclusions from articles he cites while extrapolating his (assumed) experience with AI at an elite school for all of education.
