I cannot emphasize enough that financially supporting Mothership is legitimate praxis. You are funding a games site that is doing it right. They’re supporting women, queer folks, writers from all kinds of diverse backgrounds, and they’re doing it with strong professional ethics.

I'm very please to announce a public release of my drag-and-drop bookmarking, game-making, and wandering tool Scrubjay! Scrubjay is a weird website builder that lets you cobble together web elements, images, links, text fragments, etc into a series of nested rooms...

had always heard how elegantly Pathologic 2 makes you feel like an outsider through Artemy Burakh's connection to the town, culture, and community, but I didn't realize that it also just tells you "you're hated here" over and over, which is another effective way to make you feel like an outsider

Anne Carson, Short Talks
Early one morning words were
missing. Before that, words were not.
Facts were, faces were. In a good story,
Aristotle tells us, everything that happens is pushed by something else. One day someone noticed there were stars but no words, why? I've asked a lot of people, I think it is a good question. Three old women were bending in the fields.
What use is it to question us? They said. Well, it shortly became clear that they knew everything there is to know about the snowy fields and the blue- green shoots and the plant called "audacity" that poets mistake for violets. I began to copy out everything that was said. The marks construct an instant of nature gradually, without the boredom of a story. I emphasize this. I will do anything to avoid boredom. It is the task of a lifetime. You can never know enough, never work enough, never use the infinitives and participles oddly enough, never impede the movement harshly enough, never leave the mind quickly enough.

Delighted to have @jaymcastello.bsky.social on the site today talking to developers who've wrangled with Valve's mysterious content review process
From these developers’ reports, as well as the account from Santa Ragione, the developer behind Horses, once a build and a disclosure form are submitted to Steam, the process goes on behind closed doors. Steam might request a build or instructions that allows them to see disclosed content more easily, as in Gran’s case, but in Pedercini’s they were less forthcoming. He was told that his achievements may have inappropriate names, but when he asked whether changing one from “have sex one last time” to “find romance one last time” would help, Steam didn’t reply.

“The review process is extremely slow and vague,” he says. “It’s frustrating. You work six years on a game, you line up press and events for the launch, and then some guy at Valve clicks on a checkbox and blocks everything.”

For Gran, after she submitted her build full of the sex scenes, Steam took “probably about two weeks” to get back to her, during which she was “sweating.” “I’m just left to speculate. What do they think of this? Who is this person who’s deciding the fate of this game I’ve been working on for four and a half years?” This was also happening just a few weeks after the game Horses was delisted from Steam and other storefronts over its sexual content, making Gran wonder whether she would get to sell the game at all, and whether it would become known for having bannable content rather than “really just a truthful retelling of a teenage experience.”

Hey, I'm gonna be speaking at @narrascope.org in Albany in June! I'm delighted to team up with fellow editor Marissa Koors to dig into the hot new trend of having your game edited and how you can get in on the craze. 2026, year of the game editor! Full schedule: narrascope.org/schedule/
Text: The Well-Edited Game: How Professional Editing Elevates Our Medium
Jess Haskins, Marissa Koors
Editing is an integral part of the creative process in traditional media. But in games, editorial responsibilities are scattered across disciplines or skipped altogether. What do game editors actually do? Are editors only for narrative games? How does editing interact with other aspects of production? What should you consider before working with an editor? We’ll demystify the editorial process and make the case for including editors in every game’s development. We’ll break down the different types of editing, highlight successful interventions from past projects, and share why we believe 2026 is the year of the game editor.
