Not sure whether to be worried or elated to observe Small Copper butterflies mating on October 3rd but I'm pretty sure it's not unprecedented. They did, however looks so beautiful like two tiny orange bows on the brown seed head of the Knapweed. #butterfliesinautumn

George is quite right on this. I discovered via FOI requests that just 5% of all woodland creation grants go to support natural regeneration of trees, and 95% to tree planting. I’ll continue to push DEFRA to fix this. www.theguardian.com/environment/... bsky.app/profile/geor...

I had a great day at Arnside Knott looking for Brown Hairstreak butterflies. I found 4, all on a large area of Hemp Agrimony. Once they were feeding, they were quite relaxed about my poking a camera lens at them! @cumbriawildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @nationaltrust.org.uk
